501 .1 - Be able to address the range of communication requirements in own role Health and social care professionals need good communication skills to develop positive relationships and share information with people using services. We also need to be able to communicate well with people’s families and/or carers and our own colleagues and other professionals. It is important therefore, if we are considering a career in health and social care, to gain the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to develop effective interpersonal skills. There are several different forms of communication used in a health and social care environment. :Verbal communication Verbal communication uses words to present ideas, thoughts and feelings.
The concepts of power sharing, consultation and joint ways of working are essential for effective service provision. Health and social care professionals need to understand the importance of promoting autonomy with individuals. They also need to be aware of their own roles and responsibilities and how they relate to others within the sector. Companies therefore now need to think creatively about how to recruit and involve individuals in planning and delivering of care services and need to invest time and effort in effective ‘partnership working’. This ensures the individual accessing care or services is placed at the centre or home.
They should be aware that patients could with hold important information, so they must follow good procedure. As a RRT you have to be able to follow instruction properly, which includes being able to take instruction from higher authority. All of these are basic personal qualities that should be performed as a respiratory therapist. As a respiratory therapists you must evaluate and asses patients upon there cardiopulmonary disorders. In the healthcare profession we always try to give the best service which we can and ensure that people are happy with the service that we provide but sometimes dilemmas occur as we don’t always agree with everyone. Unfortunately having codes of conduct/procedures etc do not always match the wishes of the person.
Effective communication and interpersonal interaction between individuals is important in all situations in society, such as in health and social care settings such as hospitals, nurseries and care homes. Both theories of communication can be taken across into health and social care settings to help communication and interpersonal interaction between health and social care professionals and service users be as effective and as possible. The first theory I will be talking about is the communication cycle which i discussed in P2. The communication cycle is a type of code that requires you figuring out what the other person is trying to say and what their behaviour means. This theory would allow service users and health care professionals to communicate more easily and effectively.
It has an influence on social care work, because we need to make sure that we are communicating well, and listening to the individual's wishes and preferences, and we need to remember not to dothings without discussing it with service user. Rights Every service user has rights and these must be respected. However, it need to be understood that rights and responsibilities have to be balanced. Some tensions between what the service user perceives as their right and what we can offer as a part of the service might be encountered. Examples of rights: dignity,privacy, choice of diet, choice of dress, the chance to say own opinion, etc.
