Values in Society Every value that is important to humanity is embodied in the mothers of children. The most important values to me are found in my mother. She is a mother of three, me being the youngest at 18, and has been a single mother, due to divorce, for the last 10 years. She has taught me many things about life, and has implanted in me a set of core values that she has relied on time and time again. Three of these values that I hold to be most important to me and most certainly every member of my generation are of selflessness, impeccable work ethic, and raising children to be successful in life. Although I can name off many more values of hers that I do find important, I find these three to be of the utmost importance in being a decent human being. To be a decent human being in my eyes, one must have the ability to be selfless that is to put others before themselves. In most regards I think very few people are selfless these days. However, my mother has on many occasions shown she is a top candidate for being a selfless person. Her constant awareness of her children’s lives, and the cost she herself pays for the betterment of those lives. One occasion I can name where her selflessness is most often showed is her ability to put her feelings aside in order to help me and my siblings. For example, even after a 12 hour work day she would drive us to a friend’s house for a sleepover. She might be exhausted, but she doesn’t let that inhibit her children’s lives. No matter how busy she might be she places her children’s needs above her own, and is always aware of what our needs are, and often helps us to fulfill them. Her selflessness is very comforting as a child, it gives me a sense of being cared for, and I don’t feel forgotten. Also, it gives me a sense of duty that I must be successful so I don’t let down all that she did for me. This
