One of the first points that Hornsby tries to make is that Carr’s argument has not been proven by any long term studies. Carr is just basing his essay’s argument off of his own experience and personal opinions. In 2008, however, a study was done at UCLA that gave sufficient evidence that searching the web actually aids and improves a person’s brain function. The article states that”UCLA scientists have found that for computer-savvy middle-aged and older adults, searching the Internet triggers key centers in the brain that control decision-making and complex reasoning. The findings demonstrate that Web search activity may help stimulate and possibly improve brain function.” (Internet Altering our Brains .1) If this study is accurate then it

The World Wide Web has become the primary location for researching today, but is also a scary place for discredited and phony sites. Most colleges and universities have their own databases, like Ebsco or ProQuest; like Google, but with filtered search engines. The best journals to find are ones which are peer-reviewed and are the primary source. If academic databases are not available, use sources with URLs ending in .edu, .gov, and .org (these are usually
How the Web Destroys the Quality of Students’ Research Papers In the article “How the Web Destroys the Quality of Students’ Research Papers”, David Rothenberg argues that the qualities of undergraduate’s papers have been reducing because of overuse of the internet. Accordingly his article, Rothenberg tells us that mostly students, who find information from the Web, is based on fundamental facts. First, he points that there are only articles or information on the bibliography cites and those information are out dated, he sees one of his student’s work that his resource has been published for a long time. He also discovers most of the students’ works are very cleanly and analysis it nicely, but actually the details that his student give are not related to the material; it jumps on and off on the topics. Moreover, students do not try to proof read their assignment before they hand it out.

If we lie all the time we will start to have a brain that is tailor made to make lying easier (Neulieb). It is evidence like this that has made people ask the question of what role the internet may have in changing the way our brain works. One of these questions that has been brought up a lot recently is how it is effecting the way we are learning things. The internet has taken the place of books for the most part because the internet is such a powerful tool that most people who are in school have access to. With all this access to information at an extremely fast rate books have become something that people look past because it seems too time consuming in the fast pace world we live in.
First of all, is obviously easier to search for results on a web search tool, like Google, than having to choose a book about the subject you are dealing with, and then look up on its appendix, to see if it contains the piece of information you need. Secondly, the amount and variety of information you can get through the suggested web sites is bigger, because they are not only from books, they can also be from magazines and even essays and projects of college, that students share on internet. Finally, you don’t have to travel to the library, and as if it weren’t enough, you don’t need to write down the information while reading, because of the function “copy” and “paste”. It seems like this wonder couldn’t have any flaw, but in fact it does. Web sites are sometimes not as reliable as books.
Academic Honesty GEN 105 February 27, 2011 Academic Honesty The first article I read was Academic Dishonesty in Traditional and Online Classrooms: Does the “Media Equation” Hold True, by Erik w. Black, Joe Greaser and Kara Dawson, published in December 2008. I found it in the EBSCOhost database using the keywords academic honesty and online. The article is also peer reviewed. The issues related to academic honesty in this article are that there is not many statistics of cheating in online courses as there is in face-to-face education. So it makes it hard to know if the students cheat more in online education.
