Chapter1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the study The Internet is being used in all aspects of education, including administrative, educational, professional developmental and for community building. The Internet is a worldwide collection of thousands of networks and computers that we can use to communicate. Users of any of the internet networks can reach users on any of the other networks. The Internet started with a military network project, but now includes government networks as well as academic and commercial networks. Information technology is affecting education in many innovative ways and the momentum towards these changes is irreversible. We should help our students to become capable of distance interaction and grasp the skill of gathering information from remote sources. In contrast, some schools are not offering Internet access for the students, while some are offering only for administrative purposes. So, in this study we are going to focus our concentration on the use of internet in schools. Apart from this, we will make the students aware about the negative effects of Internet on their lives. 1.2 Statement of the problem Use of the Internet in education is vital in this information age. The Internet skill in school better empowers students for their career. And they have a larger scope for reference which is not limited to the four walls of the library. So the students can get books from various countries in various languages too and this will not take much time. The students should be aware that the Internet is considered a public forum and information posted there can be viewed by anyone. Caution in the information made available to others is encouraged. Many students when join a university or a college will find it difficult to write a report. They sometimes find difficult to use the Internet to search on a specific subject. So we think
