Uses of Statistical Information
Introduction
Statistics within the health care field help to facilitate budgets, maintain employment, achieve goals associated with an organization, and much more. Statistical data gathered from a variety of sources within the health care setting can contribute to improving patient care by allowing the organization to render effective decisions associated with the statistics gathered. As an attempt to express the importance of statistical information in the health care field this paper will explain how a hospice organization uses statistics such as descriptive and inferential statistics, the four levels of measurement not used within the organization, and the importance of the accurate identification of statistics.
Statistics in the Workplace
Hospice statistical information, concerning the needs of patients enrolled within the organization and the care in, which the patient receives by his or her care providers, is continually collected. Descriptive and inferential statistics collected to ensure that the organization meets the needs of its patients comes from both the employees and by the patients and family members using the service. The data collected from these sources allows the hospice side of the organization to determine how long a caregiver stay should be in reference to nurses, certified nursing assistants, chaplains, physicians, and comfort touch therapists. This type of data also helps the organization determine, which medications are most frequently used, the amount and preference of the supplies needed and offered, and what DME’s (durable medical equipment) should be out at the houses.
Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive Statistics used within this organization help determine the medications most needed on site. Hospice uses a variety of different medications to help keep one’s patients as comfortable as possible.
