Effective communication helps us better understand a person or situation and enables us to resolve differences, build trust and respect, and create environments where creative ideas, problem solving, affection, and caring can flourish In my role as Branch Manager of a care provider effective communication is paramount to its success. It builds trust, respect, enhances learning and accomplishes goals for not on myself but everyone around me. My role commands that I wear many ‘hats’ communicating with services users, workers(Carers/Nurses), advocates, my internal consultants, external professional bodies, solicitors, government regulators and my own senior management team. There are four main reasons why we communicate, Instrumental(To ask, to refuse, to choose or to express our needs), Informative( To gain information, convey information or to describe something), Expressive(To express thoughts or feelings), Social(Attracting attention, building and maintaining relationships).

From carers, other senior carers, management, service users their families and friends also other health care professionals. Good effective written and verbal communication and being able to use a variety of techniques promotes strong working relationships this will promote good quality care for the service user. Within my job role it is important that I communicate in the correct way to ensure that the needs of the service user is is understood and met. Before a new service user moves in to the home, either myself or the manager would go to visit the potential new service user to do an assessment this could be in their home, hospital setting or another home.
We need to pool current internal resources within the staff structure that can sign language or fund training for staff to be skilled up. 1.2 Explain how to support effective communication within your own job role My job is as a service we communicate through mediums internally and externally. I support this by developing systems with staff meetings, supervision, training and digital technology. As an organisation we have protocols and information sharing agreements that aid effective communication with partner agencies. We attend multiagency meetings such as Social Services, Mental Health, Probation, Police and partnership meetings with community services.
I organise all training within the home and have to ensure that staff are fully aware of courses they need to attend, when the courses are and when they have been confirmed on the course. I am able to do this by ‘advertising’ the course via posters and in the staff communication book, liaising with Head Office to book candidates via email and then notifying staff once confirmed. 1.1 Explain how you have supported effective communication within your own job role In my role I ensure that the residents preferred method of communication is being used at all times. A lot of our residents have reduced hearing and so I need to make sure that staff are addressing them in a suitable environment with limited distractions/interruptions. We also have several residents with a form of dementia which can make effective communication quite challenging, it is my responsibility to ensure that each residents care plan

When communicating with service users, families and outside agency’s I use a wide range of communication methods including total communication aids to collate as much information as possible so that I can prepare the best care package for the individual and so the support team have all the information they need. This helps me keep up a good standard of communication skills and methods within my job role, this also enables me to keep up good positive rapports and relationships whilst building a trust with each individual that I work with. All though I use a range of communication methods I find that the most useful
Explain how communication affects relationships in an adult social care setting (1.1.2) When working in a care setting communication is very important. You are expected to communicate with clients, their families other members off staff and other professionals such as GPs and social workers. It is important to communicate effectively
Just talking to your team on a daily basically makes all the difference, the team feel wanted and needed. There need that feel of importance and that you as a person will listen and talk. It will make them feel better about coming to work. There may have difficulty in communicating but know that you will take the time to do your best to understand and solve the problem not matter how small. Whether it’s a command or just saying ‘how’s things with you’ to a team member makes all the importance of further communication.
Effective written and verbal communication and being able to use a variety of interpersonal techniques promotes strong working relationships and will promote good quality care. In my role it is important that communicate in the correct way to ensure that the needs of the service users are understood and dealt with correctly. On an initial assessment with the service user we discuss their needs and wishes to ensure they receive the right service especially made for them. I will continue to have regular meetings with them to establish their changing needs. My Manager, myself and all the care team have regular meetings to discuss all the service users and if any of their needs have changed and to be sure that everyone knows what is happening, if any changes have been made.
