Urban Sprawl The effect of the urban sprawl on the civilians has led to contentious debate as to the individuality of the citizens will be affected Critical tone and mocking tone Luenig contends that the urban sprawl which has dwarfed individuality and continues to consume the individual * The caricature of the individual is depicted as an isolated by the towering billboard and threatening message * The billboard itself is both a symbol of omen for the future metropolis which casts an ominous shadow upon the individual * The isolation of the caricature is reinforced by the spacious environment which evokes a sterility Urban Sprawl The effect of the urban sprawl on the civilians in the community which has led to a contentious debate as to the individuality of the citizens will be affected. Luenig contends that the growth of the urban sprawl which has dwarfed individuality continues to consume citizens. In a critical and mocking manner the cartoon targets the citizens of Melbourne and the higher government authorities. The caricature of the individual is depicted as it is isolated by the towering billboard with a threatening message. Michael Luenig depicts the caricature of the man in a mocking tone comparing the caricature being dwarfed by the large billboard, showing the growth of the urban sprawl spreading across Melbourne. The readers in fear which is shown through Luenig’s cartoon outlining the threatening message that is being sent towards the citizens of the metropolis. The billboard highlights “bigger” and “smaller” seeing the fear that is struck upon the readers. The billboard shows the comparison towards how the billboard which is getting bigger but the people are getting smaller due to the growth of the metropolis.
