Speech on Discriminationa Good morning respected Mrs. Gandhi and my fellow students. I would like to start off by thanking each and every one of you for being able to spare these precious few minutes for me and giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts on a sensitive and crucial subject. A subject that is part of our daily lives. A subject that is part of our culture. A subject that is part of our heritage. Yes my friends I am talking about religion. Religion that should be bringing solace but has become the cause of grief. Religion that should unite but has become the cause of division. Religion that should instill faith but has become a bed of fear and hatred. I am certain that almost all of us have been faced with religious discrimination at one point or the other in our lives. Being stereotyped for being a Jain, or being left out for being Christian and being looked upon as potential terrorists for being Muslim. Religion has caused war, religion has spread hatred, religion has caused deaths. Have we not learnt anything from the past? How many more people will we let get massacred in the name of religion? How many more lives will we lose? I think that it is about time that all of us wake up and make religion what it really is. Religion is peace, it is tolerance, it is hope. India is a land of multifarious religions. It is a land where Jains and Christians live next door to each other, where Parsis and Sikhs carpool to go to work, where hindus and muslims celebrate eid and diwali together. I understand that all of us are used to a certain way of thinking but its time that we change and realize the importance of unity, tolerance and respect. Religion should be used as a mean to unite and not divide. All religions, be it Islam, Christianity, Hinduism or Jainism teach us that everyone is equal in the eyes of God ( quote) No god, no
