Effective team working is about first of all setting clear aims and objectives to be achieved by staff members. This is communicated in the Staff Handbook and Code of Practice and during staff induction. Thus, employees are aware of company’s mission and performance expectations and competence required, set also in job role descriptions and person specifications. Performing effective induction, followed by mentoring, coaching or shadowing experienced and skilled staff is a powerful tool for new starters in order to shape them as effective team members. Applying of Bureaucratic management style is necessary as all settings in the Health and Social Care sector have to comply with Government legislations and Care Standards, SOVA and DOLL legislations, Data Protection act etc. All these legislations are implemented in each company policies and procedures and strictly followed by all employees. On the other hand Democratic management style is applied in order to ensure effective team work in all levels of service settings. Nowadays, especially in the situation of credit crunch and budget financial cuts the care sector experience serious difficulties in managing staff level. It is usual to see managers working together with staff members to provide direct care to service users. Democratic management enables open communication, effective feedback, given to employees, freedom to discuss work issues on any level and suggest action plans for resolving problems. In order to fulfil company’s mission, aims and objective the service setting should have updated care plans for service users, which meet their needs in all areas of their lives. I had discussed with staff members during staff meetings how important is updated our service users care plan. Few more points had been discusses, including clients activity time table. L.S. suggested all activity time tables to be reviewed and updated, as there have been changes in service users lives. Also, she suggested activity time tables to be printed at the beginning of each week, reflecting all activities and outings of clients. L.S., shift leader reminded staff member that key worker sessions have to be carried on every week and the outcomes to be recorded in the Key Worker’s Session form. C.V. expressed her worries that not knowing clients well enough would lead to negative results. I had address this issues to all staff, especially to long term employees, to share their experience and knowledge about clients and their competence with the remaining staff. It was clear for all staff members that working together will ensure getting our clients know better. Thus will achieve effective communication not only with clients, but with their families and related professionals. At the end of the meeting we agreed to have weekly meeting in order to discuss any positive and negative results in key working and evaluate the key working progression. Following the outcome of the staff meeting I had printed a draft of key workers/ co-key workers allocation, which was subject to further discussions and suggestions.
