UNIT 4222-245 Understand the legislation and policies that support the human rights and inclusion with learning disabilities Identify legislation and policies that are designed to promote the human rights, inclusion, equal life chances and citizenship of individuals with learning disabilities. The Equality Act 2010 is an “umbrella” act which has many different policies under it which include policies on disabilities, discrimination due to a disability, promoting empowerment and inclusion giving an individual with learning disabilities equal opportunities. The Human Rights act 1998 is a legislation that is set out to promote freedom of choice and individuality, to make our own choices. Explain how this legislation and policies influence the day to day experiences of individuals with learning disabilities and their families. It enables professionals to communicate more easily as the label communicates the general characteristics of learning disabilities. Support staff are getting the training required to support individuals with learning disabilities, as a result of this, individuals are living within their own homes with support or in specialist homes. Enabling them to live longer with a better quality of life. They are in receipt of direct payments from the government allowing the individual to make choices about their care, along with the help of advocacy they are given greater choices in their everyday lives. Opportunities for employment are available to those that are able to go to work. There are more daycentres that offer learning schemes, but at the same time allowing those to make friends with others that are in a similar
