Unit 4: development through life stages Task: knowing the stages of growth and development through the human lifespan * Famous people of life stages * Theories of development theories of growth. The famous celebrity I will talk about in my assignment is Stephen Hawking. Stephen is an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology within the University of Cambridge. Stephen Hawking was born on the 8th January 1942 in, oxford. He was the son of Frank Hawking, a research biologist, and Isobel Hawking. He was the eldest of the three children of his parents, he had two sisters Philippa and Mary, and he also had an adopted brother Edward. His parents lived in North London, however because of the London being under attack by the Luftwaffe, they moved to oxford, as his parents though that it was a much safer location, while Isobel was pregnant with Stephen. As soon as Stephen was born, hawking family moved back to their home in North London, while in London his father decided that they should move to St Albans in Hertfordshire, in 1950, when he was around 8 years old. He then attended St Albans high school for girls, between 1950 and 1953 because during those time boys where educated at the girls schools till the age of 10. At the age of 11 he attended the school of St Alban. Hawking was good at school, but not exceptionally a brilliant student, he was always interested in science. After finish school he enrolled himself at University College, oxford, and he chose physics as his subject. In 1962 it was a great shock for him to discover that he had motor neurone disease. He was never well co-ordinated physically as a child. He was not good at ball games, and his handwriting was the despair of his teachers.
