IC01: The principles of infection prevention and control The prevention and control of infection is the responsibility of everyone working in a health and social care setting. Both employers and employees have particular roles to avoid the spread of infection. 1.1. As a health & social care practitioner it is essential to maintain a clean and hygienic environment and also to be aware of the infection control policies and procedures that are used in the workplace. Maintaining a high level of personal health and hygiene will also help in the prevention of infection.

The health and safety poster should always be put as it is the law. You should always work safely and follow instructions and guidance to ensure that everyone is safe. The health and safety policy will cover emergency procedures in the event of a fire or other emergencies. You should always know the procedures for things such as fire, security incident or if a child goes missing. In my work place we have been spoken to about what procedures you should follow.

[pic] All Staff are encouraged to enrol on courses to help them recognise health and safety, 1st aid training is available to all staff to ensure they are capable to deal with any emergencies that may arise with children and young people, Policies and procedures are in place and ALL staff are expected to comply with these. Anyone found not to be complying with these without reasonable explanations will be disciplined appropriately. CRB checks on all staff and volunteers enable my setting to provide a safe environment for children to be in. All staff are made aware, if not trained, in manual handling, as well as looking after children and young people, Staff and volunteers must be trained appropriately to ensure safe lifting at all times to limit self injury.
Also everyone should be up to date with all their health and safety training, everyone should read your policies and procedures which is a legal frame work. The law places responsibilities on both employers and employees 1.3 Differences in the main health and safety responsibilities of A Social care worker The social care worker has to maintain any care procedures, which refer to the policies and procedures outlining the ways things get done, this includes attending any training. Health and safety responsibilities include other things such as making sure any activities are done safely, as well as the use of any equipment or materials to be handled with care, minimizing the risk of injury or harm to themselves and others, including other staff
Employers should have accessible (easily located, understandable, straight forward and manageable) infection prevention and control procedures that ensure a safe environment and safe working practices. They should also have a system for ensuring that we understand and follow those procedures. Failure of our employer to minimise the risk of infection and to protect we, our colleagues, individuals we support and there family and friends against infectious disease constitute neglect. Unit 4222-202 questions 1. Describe the duties and responsibilities of own role: As a Health Care Assistant my role is to make sure that all the service users’ needs are met. By doing that I will need to follow the patients care plans provided for them. This will give me information on any illnesses, mental health issues, what they use for mobility, whether they are independent or need help with personal hygiene care. I also must follow all rules and regulation policies within the work setting and keep up with any relevant training I may need to keep me up to date and informed.
All employees must inform mangement of any training needs they may have in relation/line with the health and safety at work act. All individuals in the workplace must conribute to their own safety at work by risk assessing any task or situation, and always ensuring that everyone around them will remain safe and free from harm or potential risks. To ensure all staff are adequately trained to ensure every person has a level of health and safety competence that is appropriate to their role.Ensure risk assessments are completed regularly and any actions that may arise are dealt with accordingly.Be proactive to ensure the safety and welfare of all employees,residents,visitors and contractors is maintained continually.Ensure that all legal responsibilities in regards to reporting and investigating incidents and accidents are complied with a prompt action taken when required to
In my work role I also have a responsibility to provide a duty of care to all patients receiving care. This is `The legal obligation to safeguard others from harm while they are in your care, using your services or exposed to your activities`. (Collins 2015) I am required to work to an excellent standard and quality of care, adhering to my organisations policies in my everyday practice. The trust value that I meet are; `We put our patients at the centre of everything we do’ `We focus on our people’ `We involve our people in making decisions’ and `We deliver excellence’ (Trust values booklet.) I am expected to ensure that all patients are treated fairly and with dignity and respect, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and diagnosis, and always act in the best interests of the individual whilst allowing them to be as independent as possible.
