The epidermis, dermis, and a layer of fat; the epidermis is on the outside of the skin. This kind of skin gradually moves toward the surface. The dermis is the inner layer and it has tissues and structures, such as * Connective tissue * Elastic fibers * Capillaries * Muscle fibers * Sensory cells * Nerve fibers * Pigment cells (produce Melanin) * Sweat glands * Hair follicles * Sebaceous glands Below all of that is the layer of fat. It varies on size everywhere on the body depending on the person. It’s usually used as insulation and used for energy for the nutrients. The epidermis layer is very interesting. The layers that it is made of is what they call basal layer, this always forms new cells. When the new cells develop the gradually move towards the surface that takes about 1-2 months… then they start to die and fall off from friction. The skin has different factors that contribute to the skin color. Intrinsic factors are inherited at birth and cannot be changed. The Extrinsic factors is the skin color being influenced by things outside the body. Such as exposure to the sun will affect your skin color. A human’s skin contains two different layers and varies with thickness. Now the dermis contains down growths from the epidermis like hair follicles and glands. Glands produce the epidermis. It provides with five layers of skin such as located on the palm and soles. The hair on the human skin provides protection and regulation of body temperature for mammals. These hairs are very important because they play a role in sense organs. The color of hair depends on the shade and the amount of pigments.
