Unit 4: Outcome 1: 1.1a – Physical abuse is any intentional and unwanted contact with you or something close to your body. Examples of physical abuse are: * Scratching, punching, biting, strangling or kicking. * Throwing something at you such as a phone, book, shoe or plate. * Pulling your hair. * Pushing or pulling you. * Grabbing your clothing. * Smacking your bottom. * Grabbing your face to make you look at them. * Grabbing you to prevent you from leaving or to force you to go somewhere. Signs and symptoms of physical abuse are bruising, bike marks, burn marks, changes in the clients behaviour extreme physical abuse can lead to death. 1.1b – Sexual abuse refers to any action that pressures or coerces someone to do something sexually they don't want to do for example: * Unwanted kissing or touching. * Unwanted rough or violent sexual activity. * Rape or attempted rape. * Refusing to use condoms or restricting someone’s access to birth control. * Keeping someone from protecting themselves from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). * Sexual contact with someone who is very drunk, drugged, unconscious or otherwise unable to give a clear and informed “yes” or “no.” * Threatening someone into unwanted sexual activity. * Repeatedly pressuring someone to have sex or perform sexual acts. * Repeatedly using sexual insults toward someone. Clients can have disturbed behaviour including self-harm, inappropriate sexual behaviour; it may also cause continuous urinary infections, depression, loss of self-esteem it may also cause problems when the client is trying to build a relationship. 1.1c – Emotional and Psychological abuse includes a range of non-physical controlling behaviours that cause emotional damage and undermine a person’s sense of well-being. * Telling
