Standards of safety in England care homes are putting thousands of elderly and disabled residents at risk. Documents released under freedom of information requests have revealed that care home routinely breaching fire regulations and safely with 135 homes branded fire hazards by fire service inspectors we deal with hazards in or life every day walking across busy streets driving and playing sports generally you don't worry too much about these situations. Why because you've learned from an early age how to deal with everyday hazards. But we haven't been trained how to recognize assess and control hazards found in the workplace. That is one of the reasons why young workers are so likely to be injured at wok. THE SIX HAZARDS ⦁ PHYSICAL HAZARDS ⦁ BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS ⦁ CHEMICAL HAZARDS ⦁ PSYCHO-SOCIAL ⦁ SAFTEY AND SECURITY ⦁ MECHANICAL When we refer to hazards in relation to occupational safety and health the most commonly used definition is a hazard is a potential source of harm or adverse health effect on a person or persons. If there was a spill of water in a room then that water would present a slipping hazard to person passing through it. If access to that area was prevented by a physical barrier then the hazard would remain though the risk would be minimised. PHYSICAL HAZARDS Are the most common and will be present in most workplaces at one time or another they include unsafe conditions that can cause injury illness and even death.
