CJ340-02-09-LA UNIT 2 SCENARIO Unit 2 Scenario I will explain how I would handle specific events in my precinct as a new narcotics officer. I will explain the choices I would make and how others would treat me because of my choices. I will explain what the repercussions might be due to my actions. I will attempt to make the right choices. In this scenario I am a newly appointed narcotics detective assigned to an area that has a terrible problem with drugs. At the first meeting I attend, the commander explains how he approves of the unit tactics and thinks they are effective. I asked my partner about these comments and he stated sometimes they have to plant drugs and use force to gain information from suspects. I go to the commander and ask for a transfer. The commander states these actions are taking place out of necessity so I should just go with it. I notice for myself what is going on after a few weeks and see them planting evidence and using force with suspects. What do I do? What are the moral issues in this scenario? How might my actions affect my future relationships with my partner and other officers? What about the administration and the community? The moral issue here is, do I think what this precinct is doing is wrong and if so what I am willing to do about it? I pretend to go along with the way things are run and gather evidence against my fellow officers. I do this for months and then take all my evidence to the state police and the state attorney’s office. Once the corruptness is out in the open I will not be very well liked by my fellow officers or the administration especially because I am new. It will be viewed as I am a troublemaker and lead to my partner and others not trusting me. The community may not appreciate what I did by reporting them
