How can positioning inhibit and improve communication? Positioning can create barrier on receiving and interpreting messages which inhibit communication. If the individual is under constant verbal abuse for their poor hygiene it will more often than not result in the person feeling unconfident from low self esteem, which can lead to depression and isolation. Task 2: Knowing how to encourage an individual to maintain personal hygiene. ⦁ When it comes to addressing such a matter with an individual it is important to first of all make sure the subject is handled in private and as sensitively and tactfully as possible, whilst not imposing any of my own ethics and values about standards of cleanliness as there may be reasons why the individual has poor hygiene that are highly personal to them
If professionals have negative thoughts about their service users, it will affect the way they treat and care for them, This will not promote an anti discriminatory practice because the service user is being treated differently due to the service providers own opinions and views. Past events can affect anti-discriminatory practice being put in place; an example of this could be that if the service provider has experienced something awful in their caring situation of a certain ethnic background, there are chances of the service provider failing to provide an active and caring service to the user. Health and well being can also influence the way the service providers provide care for the service users. An example of this could be that if the patient is gay and the service provider puts their health documents at the bottom because they don’t want to treat a gay person. This will not promote an anti discriminatory practice because the service provider is failing to treat the person because of their sexual orientation.
In this scenario it is important that you use their preferred method of communication. If you do not have the right equipment in the setting to help communication be effective, the service user may feel discriminated against as you are not providing for their needs. In health and social care settings, it is important that you provide equipment for everyone so that no one feels discriminated against. Language barriers can cause people to feel discriminated against, meaning that they make feel unhappy and uncomfortable in the setting.

A person with dementia is often frustrated, sometimes angry, and we need to realise this as part of their condition, and that we should not react in a way that would provide further anguish to them. They may also act inappropriately towards you or others. It can be difficult for them to understand that this is not appropriate, so the carer must diffuse the situation calmly and discreetly. A carer must always be understanding of the condition so they are able to provide the correct level of support. 4.1 Explain the difference between a reality orientation approach to interactions and a validation approach.
Unit 304 2.1 While working in care, the aim is to give the best possible standard of care to service users, but sometimes there can be a conflict beetween the individual’s or their family’s wishes and rights and the duty of care. In this case the most important thing is to decide whether the person is aware of the risks and consequences of the decision and has the capacity to make the decision. Before taking best interest decisions I have to make sure that the person definitely lacks the capacity. The person or their next of kin has an overall right and responsibility in decision making for issues relating their care, and I need their consent to deal with certain issues. When a dilemma arises, my responsibility is to support individuals or their families to make informed choices.
