I am responsible for the wellbeing of the individual so care and attention need to be shown to minimalize the possibility of them coming to any harm. Their wellbeing is the main priority in everything I do in my setting. I always act in their best interest and act with confidence and assurance in what you do, do not take on any tasks or projects that I feel cannot be done safely. Ask for help and support if needed.
1.2 Explain how duty of care contributes to the safeguarding of individuals. All workers in a childcare setting have a ‘duty of care’ to protect both children and other co-workers. Duty of care means that a person or group has a responsibility to ensure that there is reasonable standard of attention and care given to avoid neglect which may lead to or cause harm to others. It is important to excersice duty of care, especially in young children to help them to develop immune systems which can protect them from childhood illness and other diseases, which may cause them harm ot disable them later in life. Children develop the ability to see potential dangers and learn how to deal with them.
Child protection is a part of safeguarding and promoting welfare. It refers to the activity that is under taken to protect specific children who are suffering or are likely to suffer significant harm. Effective child protection is essential as part of wider work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. However, all agencies and individuals should aim to proactively safeguard and promote the welfare of children so that the need for action to promote children from harm is reduced. 1.2 2.3 Children should be raised in positive circumstances by providing safe and caring environments.
It sets out recruitment best practice, some underpinned by legislation, for the school, local authority, and further education education sectors. All schools should protect children and promote their welfare by providing a safe environment for children to learn in. Creating a culture which recognises and understands the importance of safeguarding - including listening to and discussing with children. Identifying children who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm, both at school and at home, and referring immediately any concerns to the local authority children’s social care services. In this assignment I am going to be explaining the strategies and methods that can be used to support children, young people and their families where abuse is suspected or confirmed. I will also be talking about short and long term support and actions made to make sure Jessica is safe and that all her developmental needs are being met. An adult should show respect, listen carefully, take information seriously and reassure Jessica who disclosed information about possible abuse or maltreatment. Now I am going to explain other strategies which can be used to support children or young people. Apart from the nursery care workers in the case study, other professionals who have been trained in how to deal with suspected child abuse or maltreatment should be involved.
TDA 3.4 task 1.2 Evaluated how the policies and procedures of the setting support children and young people to:- Feel Safe All children to be shown respect, to know the rules and the boundaries. All adults to show a caring attitude. All children should know who they can talk to if the have a problem. Friendship stop on the playground for children who have no-one to play with. All children should feel secure.
3.4: Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour. 1.2 Evaluate how the policies and procedures of the setting support children and young people to: * Feel safe- A school should ensure that every child attending the school feels safe. Policies like Safeguarding children ensure that the right procedures are in place to protect children. All staff working within the school should be trained on the correct procedures for safeguarding children. Anti-bullying policies are in place in school to ensure the children know that bullying is not acceptable behaviour but a child should feel confident enough to report an incident if one occurs and should know who they can go to within the school to discuss any such situations.
We have to work with social workers and other outside agencies and share good practice to make the placement a positive situation for the child in our care. 302.1.2 Explain expectations about own work role as expressed in relevant standards Standards for foster carers are outlined in our yellow booklets for each pay scale. I am a core carer and the expectations are as follows: : To keep all information about the children in my care confidential at all times. : To contribute to child care reviews and other meetings as required for the children in your placement. : To plan and provide a safe, secure, stable environment which is stimulating to the child and also flexible in line with the individual child’s needs.
Safeguarding and promoting Children’s Welfare Every child receives and enjoys challenging learning and development experiences that meets their individual needs and make sure they are safe. Child minders must safeguard children at all times if abuse is suspected it must be reported and I must record it. Documentation In my setting I have all the relevant policies and procedures to do with safeguarding I must record any accidents and bruises and tell parents about any incidents that has happened when they arrive. Suitable premises environment and equipment Indoor spaces toys furniture and equipment must be safe and suitable for the children in my setting Organisation Child-minders have to plan and organise in their setting to ensure the children develop and achieve challenging learning experiences Data Protection Act
I also watch for signs of emotional or developmental problems in children and write anything that concerns me about the child/ children, then I bring the issues to the attention of centre's coordinator or supervisor to inform parents/ guardians. I always listen carefully to children and this helps me determine a child's needs and aids in promoting the child's development. Inclusive childcare is very important whether or not children experience disabilities or other special needs. Every single day at the setting, I make sure all children fee a sense of belonging. I let children participate in the same routines and play experiences, this way I learn to recognize children as distinct individuals with special strengths and needs.
