I can’t tell you how cool I felt the first time I drank, the younger kid hanging out with the older crowd, everyone getting drunk together. Which use to make me question why we have a legal limit to drink in the first place, I mean underage kids have had no problem getting alcohol for decades so why put a legal limit on it? When I found myself starting to asks those questions the answers just seem to appear, well when I started getting in trouble, anyways, I realized alcohol was a major contributor to my problems; which made me think maybe they have a limit for drinking because underage kids are not mature enough yet to handle the side effects alcohol brings with it. Underage drinking has been around for years but it brings little to no good to our society as a whole.
It is no surprise that alcohol and crime go hand in hand, but how staggering these numbers are may surprise you. In a recent study the number of offenses committed by underage drinkers was a surprising 32.4 percent. Now that was just in violent crimes such as murder, rape, armed robbery, domestic violence, etc, however 82.5 percent have admitted to having a drink or two before they committed the violent crimes. Also the number of offenses under the influence of alcohol that are considered to be non-violent is an astounding 68.4 percent, this survey was taken by the DOJ (department of justice) in 2001 and very is disturbing at the amount of offenses committed under the influence and it seems as though there is nothing we can do to keep these crime rates from going up. Everyone knows when you drink you get this sudden superman invincibility as though nothing can harm you and you can do whatever you want, but that’s why they have the legal limit to drink, because kids underage do not know how to handle certain situations under the influence.
