Pine Ridge Players to perform Tartuffe! By Lizzy Parsons Special to the Beacon Remember being little and having your favorite Dr. Seuss stories read to you at night? There were hypocrites, liars, funny little men, and creatures of all sizes. Well, Tartuffe brings that to life, minus all of the silly creatures. “Tartuffe reminds me of a grown up version of a Dr. Seuss book.” says Casey McCall, who plays Mariane, “It really is a great Show, and I think that people will enjoy it a lot.” The audience is in for quite the surprise when they see this show.
Kevin Hart has had an amazing amount of success in his young career. Hart has done well in the box office and been a recent recipient of 2 NAACP Image Awards. He has been nominated for a number of awards and starred in his own sitcom. Kevin believes his success is due in part to his savvy use of social media. Hart opens up to Oprah Winfrey in an interview that will air this Sunday on the OWN Network’s Oprah Prime.
Chapter 4 Milton Berle was an American comedian and actor who has contributed excessively to television. Ever since Texaco Star Theatre came to television his career rose to the top. He became known as Mr. Television, and brought a lot of money to NBC, and other companies because this show was so popular. People loved this show so much they would go out and buy a TV just so they could watch it. Milton Berle invented what people call vaudeo, a new trend/vaudeville style.
Two and ½ Laughs I am sure that almost everyone has seen “Two and ½ Men”. The nightly sitcom seems to have rocketed to the top of the TV charts at an ungodly rate. So many people wonder why some sitcoms “make it” and others don’t quite make the list, in my opinion there are a few determining factors that make a show an “it” show. One of those factors is the cast of characters. The next one of these “it” factors is that the sitcoms do not emotionally involve the audience as though a drama would.
In my opinion “All in the family” was a great 1970’s sitcom. I really enjoy the reality of politics, sexuality and they way Americans’ view each other in the sitcom. I find the show to be brilliant and hilarious and most Americans’ don’t get Archie Bunker’s point of view on life and that’s why I think that the contrasts would outweigh the comparisons if this show were to air today. Some of the television’s jokes would still hold up today. When Archie picks on his wife and calls her names, it compares to the sitcom “Everybody loves Raymond”.
Family is a big part of life and I am glad that they show so many scenes that go through family ties and struggles. I truly think that this tv show impacts society making these families seem normal when in reality they shouldn't be. The Bible talks about how a family should be one man and one woman like Adam and Eve. This show depicts gays as a normal thing, where it is not completely normal yet. This assignment changes the way I consume media because sometimes what you consume over the television is wrong and it has hidden meanings or doesn't make sense i real
When Ian Belknap spoke Friday 5-6 period, it became one of my favorite presentations. He wasn't afraid to say anything , even giving an extremely offensive speech comparing Jesus Christ, and Santa Clause. But as much as I liked it, there was backlash. I heard many people saying that he took it too far and it probably offended a lot of people. I was arguing with people I didn't even know saying, that it wasn't the author's problem if people got offended.
This fairytale ending is easily accepted by many, not because they believe it is feasible, but because they wish it was. Seeing Jakie reconcile with his father and still become a Broadway star gives hope to someone with the same experiences. The Jazz Singer (1927) may be an old movie, but its portrayal of religion still holds true today. Secular music is still looked down upon by many conservative believers, many communities still have deep religious roots and although the reasons why certain traditions or holidays exist are not known they are still practiced. Finally religion has a huge impact on the personal lives or many people, whether they are being controlled by it or fighting against it.
Family guy is just a comedy and humorous T.V animated show to entertain teenagers and adults. This show regularly takes shots at a few races—Africian-AMercians, Asians, Jews, Hispanics and yet no one gets upset. “But what's amazing is that something like this can go to air here – and in the US – and barely cause a ripple.” says Craig Platt from the Sydney Morning Herald article “Racism? Or political correctness gone too far.” Published in April 8, 2011. From what I see, I can see that the US is quite a head of us far in policitical correctness era when it comes comedy tv shows unless we’re far behind from them.
Diversity In The Workplace Freedom Riders “There is Strength in Numbers” September 20, 2012 “There is strength in numbers”. After watching such a powerful movie like The Freedom Riders, it allowed me to think about the world from a different perspective. Having been born in 1990 and not during the civil rights movement time period, it made me feel blessed but it also made me think about the disturbing issues that are currently happening today that I feel sheltered from. I believe that not only myself, but also most others my age may feel the same way about feeling sheltered from certain issues that are current in this world. Never hearing about the Freedom Riders before this past week, made me recognize how much I am unaware of in this
