Tverskaya Street Every country, city and even little town has places and buildings which can tell us a lot about history. In Moscow, Tverskaya Street is one of those places. The street runs from the central Manege Square northwest in the direction of Saint Petersburg and terminates at the Garden Ring. It also gives its name to Tverskoy District. Tverskaya displays a rich and fascinating history and it also shows that no matter in which century we live, the class differences will still exist. What role plays history in our live? History is the key to the past of all humans and generations. History is the road over time. It goes deep into the centuries, antiquity, but it displays us in the modern world and leads us on it. If we don’t know our past we cant build the future. Everybody wants to know from where their forefathers came from and how they lived. There are a lot sources from which we learn about our history- books, pictures, buildings, music, old paintings on the walls. In Russia, Tverskaya Street is one of those sources. Tverskaya Street was built in eighteenth century. It always was one of the main streets in Moscow. By walking on Tverskaya, you can see that this place has a lot of history, the history of the Russian people, traditions and architecture. Many famous Russian poets like Lermontov, Pushkin, Bynin used to write about this street in their poems. On Tverskoy Boulevard are three well- known Moscow theaters - Moscow Arts Theater, Gorky Theater, Alexander Pushkin Theater and memorial museum of the great actress Yermolova. Most buildings on Tverskoy are very old: for example, the House of Governor General or House number 14. The House of the Governor General is Moscow Hall now.
