Censorship in television really relies on the person whom is watching either TV or a movie. But in most cases there is an underage kid who cannot watch certain things that should be censored and not all channels and movies are censored. Programs shown over television may contain offensive language or visuals, which may be harmful for the viewers like children. I believe that all programs on television should be censored by the government or a responsible group or even
Sue Palmer is another sociologist that believes the increasing impact of technology and the media over the past 50 years is causing childhood to deteriorate. Palmer argues that in modern society there is a ‘toxic childhood’ due to an excessively screen-based culture which she feels is why there has been an increase in developmental conditions in children. She has reasons for some of these conditions, for example ADHD could be caused to screen saturation as the rapid changes of images on TV can make an immature brain go into overdrive resulting in the child seeing real life as boring. Palmer also believes the increase in screen-based activities has made it more difficult for children to develop literacy skills. Also Palmer
This shows that many parents are sceptical to the vaccinations, what might have negative consequences for children. The reason why in 1990s and 2000s many children did not receive their vaccination was the publication of The Lancet study by Andrew Wakefield talking about a link between autism and MMR vaccination. The strong phrase that some people still remember is that vaccinations are dangerous. Despite the fact that science has proven this is wrong some people still believe there is link between autism development and MMR vaccination. Therefore it is strange that they are making informed choice.
Since its invention over fifty years ago, television has been criticized by many as being bad for children’s brains. As television has advanced throughout the years, so have the fast paced, mindless shows designed for young children. In the article “Is SpongeBob SquarePants Bad for Children?” Roni Rabin discusses a research study that sought to prove that watching SpongeBob SquarePants has a negative effect on a child’s executive functioning system. The results of this small experimental study found that children who watched nine minutes of a fast paced cartoon had decreased their executive functioning compared to children who participated in nine minutes of drawing or watching educational programs. Connecting fast paced television viewing to losses in cognitive ability has profound significance for children’s social and learning development.
“Most adults, has some concerns for their children watching those shows. They had a thought that they might influence their kids to do some bad things in life because of the violence in the shows”(Feinstein 2). But that was not the only thing that they might have thought would influence their kids, “comedians were now on television too, and it was big for them because they could say stuff they could not say on the radio” (Adam 2). That did not top their daughters and sons from watching television; it is not like they could watch it all the time. Plus, there were only a few
2. Parker and Carranza: P: Compared primary school children and college students in their ability to identify a target individual after a slide sequence of a mock crime F: Child witnesses had a higher rate of choosing that adults but they were more likely to make errors C: Concludes that children aren’t more accurate witnesses than adults The following research has looked and the elderly and the accuracy of eye witness testimony: 3. Cohen and Faulkner: * They showed 70 year olds and 35 year olds a film of a kidnapping * Then presented them with misleading details before asking them to recall what happened in the film. F: They found that the 70 years olds were more likely to be mislead than the 35 years old. C: Therefore, this research would suggest that people of an old age do not have accurate eye witness testimony.
In both of these articles the "television is not a good baby sitter" (renee dietz) and "my toddler has a tv in his room and im not sorry" (babble.com) there (1)valid argument is about watching T.v for there children. The article by Renee Dietz explains how our children shouldn't be left by the tv all the time they want because the parents want to want to have some peace time or dont want to be bothered. It is very (2)hallucinating to think someone would do an (3)imaginary thing to do i think that parents should (4)actually show children (5)valid techniques so they could use in the future. When you show your children how to work, clean there rooms or build things, color books all these they could (6)preserve and use
What are important to consider about programs like this are, what messages adolescents are receiving from these types of television shows and how much is at face value. They can’t necessarily digest the amount of satire or the relation of these jokes to real life situations. In Peacocke’s article, Family Guy and Freud: Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious, she exhibits the notions of any Family Guy fan but explains that although the motive of this show, even throughout all the dark humor and twisted jokes, it should not be taken seriously, just a means to find entertainment or a quick laugh. An adult maybe about to pick the syntax of the show apart but how badly does the show fester in younger minds? Seeing various age groups watch this show I can see that many of them aren’t laughing at the well-structured jokes Family Guy makes but at the simple ones or scenes they personally think are hilarious, like fat jokes or making fun of teachers.
That however has been proven untrue. Some parents are simply looking for reasons to medicate their children so that they do not have to parent them. This is when it becomes increasingly important to make sure that they child in question fits the criteria for what is needed for an AD/HD diagnosis. Contrary to what many believe poor parenting is not a cause of AD/HD. In addition to that playing video games, too much sugar, fast past lifestyle and lack of self control are also invalid causes of AD/HD.
Diet of television is the answer. I think parents should not replace a baby sitter for the TV, or even replace them selves for the TV. I know a lot of parents who prefer to sleep 30 minutes alone, and all they do is send their children to watch TV or play violent video games, they totally forget about the damage it is causing to them, and when they grow up parents complaint why their children are so violent with them and everybody else. I think the idea of built-in time-channel lock circuitry is awesome. Imagine a kid solving a puzzle -which will help to develop his brain- instead of watching TV; also this kind of activities will keep him safe from violence.
