Tuition reimbursement is a program offered by some businesses that reimburse employees the cost of tuition upon completing eligible college courses. There are a number of benefits for the employee and for the employer, benefits such as tax breaks, retention, improvement on productivity, less turnover, and a swell in morale. University of Phoenix’s online degree program develops an important quality in employees with the requirement of Learning Teams. Learning Teams are a collection of individuals that learn to effectively become a team member and team leader, which is a high regarded skill in business (UOPX, 2013). Learning teams are like on-the-job training. Learning teams teach you how to plan projects, resolve conflicts, and make decisions. These are all qualities that benefit employers. Many employees struggle because of the stress of paying for college courses, which can affect the job performance, however with tuition reimbursement employees can take comfort in knowing that they are gaining education free of cost and improving their job performance because of the education they are receiving. Businesses that offer tuition reimbursement also have eligibility requirements that must be met for example maintaining a specific grade point average, taking courses relevant business or communications, contract of employment, or be a member of management.
