Turkish culture Name : Jassim Mohammed Ali Class: 4/6 Academic number: 20090336 Introduction: Every culture in the world has What distinguishes it from other cultures, and in this report I am going to talk about Turkey and that’s because it’s one of the most amazing places in the world because of its amazing weather, beautiful nature and historic landmarks. And the other reason that made me chose this culture is because I have always heard about it and haw amazing it is so I wanted to know a little bit more about it. Body: Location and Geography: Turkey occupies Asia Minor and a small portion of Europe. Its area is 301,382 square miles (814,578 square kilometers). It is bounded on the west by the Aegean Sea; on the northwest by the Sea of Marmara, Greece, and Bulgaria; on the north by the Black Sea; on the east by Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran; and on the south by Iraq, Syria, and the Mediterranean. Although Istanbul (formerly Constantinople) is the major city and was the capital of the Ottoman Empire, the first president—Mustafa Kemal Atatürk—chose Ankara, an interior Anatolian city, as the capital in 1923. Militarily Ankara was less exposed and more easily defended than Istanbul. The choice also symbolized Atatürk's policy of nationalism, because Ankara was more Turkish and less cosmopolitan than the old capital. History : Turkey has been called "the cradle of civilization" and by traveling through this historic land. The world's first town, a Neolithic city at Catalhoyuk, dates back to 6,500 B.C. From the days of Catalhoyuk up to the present, Turkey boasts a rich culture that through the centuries has made a lasting impression on modern civilization.
