Tumalet Energy Report Executive Summary Energy crisis is becoming a number one priority worldwide, both in the commercial and private sector. Homeowners are trying to play their part by helping reduce the amount of energy they consume on a daily basis. Large companies, however, such as Tumalet, consume way more electricity on a daily basis. Rapidly increasing gas and electricity cost is further reducing the company’s profitability. Thus, there is a need for Tumalet to look at and consider ways to reduce energy consumption. Introduction This report will look at: • Ways to encourage staff to help reduce energy consumption. • Various options for reducing CO2 emissions. • Energy reductions being used by other members within the industry. Findings 1. Some companies are purchasing energy from renewable sources, such as solar-panel and wind-power. Geothermal technology is also a good way to save on heating and has zero carbon emission. Alternatively, solar panels could be installed on the roof of the office building. 2. Stopping staff business trips will save on travel cost as well as reduce CO2 emissions. 3. Painting the office roof white or any other reflective colour will reduce the building’s heat absorption rate and help reduce the peak cooling demand by 15% to 20%. Alternatively planting grass or other plants on the roof of the building will act as a natural insulation and help lower heating bills. 4. Reduce the amount of office equipment within the building. Have shared printers, etc. 5. Install systems which would allow the lighting, heating and cooling of the building to be centrally controlled via sensors and monitors. This could help reduce around 35% electricity and 40% gas consumption per person.
