Mary Baldwin OPM300 Module 4 Case Assignment Trident University 11/25/12 1. Identify the critical path and its activities for Rockfest. How long does the project take (what is the duration time)? The critical path for the Rockfest project mostly deal building contracts and marketing. First, it is important to finalize the site and building contracts – to make sure there’s even going to be a place to host such an event. Once that’s settled, the project manager needs to select a local printer for the paper advertising. Then, a promotional website needs to be designed, then a TV deal should be arranged, and a director will be hired to handle the creative direction of the ads. The director will then handle the planning of the TV camera placement. Lastly, the passes and stage credentials need to be sorted out so security can keep the public in the appropriate places. The total time it will take for all of these things is 34 weeks. Since this is a concert, many of the activities center around advertising to get tickets sold. See diagram below. 2. How would you crash the project (which activities would you crash) to keep the project on schedule and achieve the original duration, if Activity B actually takes 5 weeks instead of the planned 3 weeks? (Explain your logic)? If activity B runs over its scheduled time of three weeks, and goes for five – two activities need to be crashed to make the overall deadline achievable. It is extremely important to only crash critical activities that are required to move on to the next activity.
