Margaret Cutright Critique #2 10/01/2013 Rumor Synopsis. One of the more interesting readings in Behrens' and Rosen's Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum was “Truth Is In The Ear Of The Beholder” by Gregory Rodriguez. His major idea was that rumors thrive because those that hear rumors are more likely to believe them. Also that opinions are made by whatever information is available. This is not surprising because information is what most people go off of but the information they don’t have is what make their opinions wrong. Within the essay Rodriguez suggested that opinions are made by the information available to people. Rumors are constructed by wants and needs as well as feelings based on our judgments.…show more content…
This shows that the truth hurts in some situations but closure is necessary to the quality of life. Overall, this information goes to show that people have their own opinions based on their point of view and the information received from other sources. Also that rumors are fueled by trying to make since of the world witch exacerbate complicated situations. (Rodriguez 346-349). Synopsis two. Another essay I enjoyed in this text was “What Cost Chris Dussold his Dream Job?” by Thomas Bartlett. His main focus was that rumors are stories that weave threw the public and eventually disappear. This may not have an impact in our lives but, over time rumors pick up momentum that grow more complicated and destructive. Furthermore, this essay shows how the spread of rumors can impact your life. The author Bartlett tells a story about Chris Dussold and the struggles he faced when a rumor spread around his work cite. Another catastrophe during this process is the rumor was false and people assumed that the story was true. Based on the information people had about Chris people
