It is at this meeting where the whole team is introduced to the aggressive and wild tactic. The team then goes into the game against their rivals and ends up beating them and in doing so they accomplished their goal. The play has seven major roles: Coach Brindell, Jess, Crash, Marisol, Katie, Ingrid, Liv, and Jocelyn. The coach is a very proud man who doesn’t like to receive much help from others. Eventually he listens to his players and it works out in the end.
Using his power, he gets the players to conform and forget how others think they are supposed to act towards each other. The goal specificity is also clear in the movie. Coach Boone expects his team to be ‘perfect', he expects them to win the Virginia State Championship. Former head coach and now assistant coach Bill Yoast, played by Will Patton, is also a very influential person and good leader. He is in charge of the defence and he gets his players to ‘play for him' and they become an almost unstoppable force.
In his second school in the second half of the novel, he feels the need to stand out, and he joins boxing and wins every match he is in. His understanding of survival shows his true character. He states that “survival is a matter of actively making the system work for you rather than attempting to survive it." This represents Peekay becoming independent. Another theme that I saw as important in The Power of One was the importance of the teachers and mentors in Peekay’s life as he grew up.
Steve impresses his coach and his teammates when he gets to college by being the best runner on the team. He was the best runner on his team because he simply refused to lose and would not ever even let someone ahead of him in a race. Doing this made his Bill Bowerman extremely angry. Coach suggested not running in the front the whole time, instead during the race, he would use the other runners as windbreaks. Drafting off of them would cause them to get tired and he could use that as an advantage.
As the legend describes, the massive Goliath is put forth by the Philistines as their best warrior, and the Israelites are required to do so as well; the outcome of the conflict is determined by the victor of this duel. The Israelites select David, a diminutive and relatively weak man in comparison to his counterpart, and all signs point toward a decisive Philistine victory. Nonetheless, through the deft use of a slingshot, David swiftly dispatches his opponent and the Israelites emerge victorious. [3] This tale is often used as an inspiration in art for a population, as it reflects tenacity and resourcefulness, as well as the ability to prevail over seemingly insurmountable odds. In fact, Michelangelo's David was created specifically to reflect these values, as Florence commissioned the work as a symbol of its triumphs over far stronger and larger rivals.
Therefore, many athletes are willing to risk it all by taking performance enhancing drugs to be the best in their profession mainly for three reasons: the pressure to perform, the life style, and the desire to be the best. Athletes have to deal with pressure to perform by their coaches, owners, and by others playing his or her position. Coaches want the athletes to do well because more Johnson 2 than likely if the athletes do well, the team will win. Coaches are under more pressure to win than players because their jobs depend on winning games. If the players don’t perform well; coaches will look at other players to help the team win.
Desire GREAT athletes have the desire to be the best they can be. They have the desire to dominate their sport and understand that they were put on this earth for a reason. Weather they are a weightlifter, football player, baseball player or another type of athlete, they realize that they have a burning passion for their craft. Dedication Once an athlete has the desire to be great and the desire to dominate their sport they must COMMIT to it. Dedication includes the commitment to excellence through sacrifice and taking action.
It was the moment my wrestling team and I had been waiting for: we had to defeat our rivals KMS. We were ready. All the practices, all the blood, all the sweat and tears were on the line for the trip to the state tournament. It was a no holds-barred battle, and we were determined to come out on top. As the dual progressed my team wrestled with purpose, passion and power.

“Commentators felt that Ali had reached the end of the road” the verb “Felt” represents the opinion of the commentators that Ali has grown old to this game and also believes its best if he would hang off his gloves. Then the writer uses lots of superlative adjectives such as “Bigger”, “Younger” and “stronger” to describe Ali’s opponent Foreman, who was like an obstacle in Ali’s path towards the championship belt and also the crowd favourite to win the match. Furthermore the writer boasts about Foreman’s victory against the two men who previously beat Muhammad Ali by using powerful post-modifying adjective “Foreman had destroyed…” showing Foreman’s superiority against Ali and trying to boost up his confidence before the match. The writer then uses an adjective “great” to describe the noun “promotion”, describing the readers that it was one of the most renowned boxing matches ever to be promoted in the history of boxing. Focusing back to Muhammad Ali, the verb “Muhammad Ali soon settled into Africa” implies that he has established himself in Africa, where the match was taking place, to get familiar with the extreme climate.
