Trip to Auntie’s House The Fourth of July is tomorrow, so my Mom and I are about to take our annual trip to my Aunt Mary house in Maryland for the weekend. It’s about a four hour drive if we don’t make any stops. Mom always says you better use the bathroom before we leave, because I’m not going to make any stops.” I guess that means nothing to drink for me. We always leave early in the morning, the day before the holiday. Mom says this way we can beat the morning traffic. I guess today the morning traffic beat us, because we have been in traffic for a while. We’re just creeping along on I-95, I’m playing my favorite road trip game “That’s My Car.” Where I pick out all the cars I like and say it’s mine. I have do something to keep me awake. We finally make through traffic, now going at a steady pace. As we pass the exit to Washington D.C., I ask my Mom could we stop on the way back, she says “if it’s not too late.” I would like to visit the White House but I don’t think that will be possible. I fell asleep for a while like I always do. I stayed up longer this time than I have any other time. I’m starting to recognize my surroundings. I see the horses in the big field, just running around. The tall trees with the vines going up their trunks align both sides of the road, tells me that we’re getting close! As we drive into my Aunt’s yard, I can smell the ocean’s water. The sound of the waves hitting the rocks is pleasantly peaceful. I can’t wait to walk to the pier to see the stingrays and jellyfish. Maybe my Uncle will even carry on his boat to catch some crabs; that would be cool! Since it’s the day before the holiday, Mom and my Aunt go straight into the kitchen to prepare the food for the barbeque. Our barbeques are usually a big event.
