It is easy to see how the media can distort the facts. All you need to do is use a great amount of emotional appeal, hide the facts, victimize one person, and now you are done. You would have many people rallying behind your cause. This is the case with Trayvon Martin. At this point, everyone in the United States and maybe the rest of the world knows who Trayvon Martin is. And while I truly believe that it is a pity he died, the true victim of this case is George Zimmerman. In this complicated story that includes the people: George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin, only a sliver of the story has been published. Of course, there was no video recording of the entire event, so as with many other stories, the writers put their spin on it. These journalists were not there, but they speak so authoritatively on the matter. Their story goes something like this. Trayvon Martin bought some Skittles and Arizona Tea. He was walking home when George Zimmerman followed him and shot him. As a result, Martin died. Zimmerman was patrolling the area since he was the neighborhood watch captain. He thought Martin was suspicious, so he followed him and then shot him.…show more content…
Many factors were left out of the press for many different reasons. The main reason is that the story would not sell as well. People are less interested with the hard facts. They are more interested in the distorted story. The distorted story appeals to the people’s drama senses. The way most writers present the story resonates with the reader’s heart. Even the cover picture was false. Martin’s picture from the newspaper is a younger version of him. He was a 17 year old and six foot two. There is no way that is his current picture.
