Youth in Action: We are Your Allies in the Scourge against Human Trafficking Human trafficking is a terrible crime that takes advantage of victims through forced labor, slavery, sexual exploitation and organ trade. Victims of human trafficking are illegally transported from one place to another so that the perpetrators of this crime can profit financially. In other words, human trafficking is a modern day slavery. Thus, Human Trafficking is a universally condemned crime and a serious abuse of human rights and we, the Filipino youth, share a responsibility to do our best in supporting efforts to eradicate this modern day slavery. Youth and children are trafficked domestically in Philippines and internationally for the purposes of labor and sexual exploitation. Although youth and children are the most affected and vulnerable population affected by trafficking, they have remained largely voiceless. In the Philippines, one can find children enslaved in forced labor in various industries, as domestic workers, porters, and street vendors and beggars. Many young girls are forced into a life of sexual and labor servitude. Many children are also trafficked from the Philippines to other countries around the world to become sex slaves, organ donors or forced laborers. That is why, we need to educate, engage and mobilize ourselves as youth in the fight against human trafficking through a powerful advocacy campaign and capacity building. It is essential for youth like us, and young leaders of the Philippines, to begin and examine this problem, as it largely affects our peers. By becoming better educated about the issue of human trafficking, we can spread awareness of this issue and serve as a vehicle that will change the social perception of this issue.
