Traduea's Argument Against Abortion

Every year, approximately 42 million lives are taken due to abortion worldwide. These are innocent infants that don’t have a say in what happens to them. There are alternative options to abortion, and it should not be considered right under any circumstances. Although it may be allowed to legally have an abortion, from a biblical standpoint, I believe it is not right due to many factors. In Canada, it is legal to have an abortion, and it is one of the few countries with no legal restrictions on abortion. Abortions used to be illegal early on in history, but Pierre Traduea’s Liberal Government made the decision of allowing abortion under certain circumstances (CBC news: Abortion Rights). There are many reasons, most of them being because the parents are not prepared to handle the responsibility of a child, and have conceived an infant by accident. According to Linda Lowen, “4 out of 10 unintended pregnancies end in abortion” (Abortion Facts). This is a large number of 40% of children who get their lives taken away because of a careless mistake of someone who was not prepared to have a child. Statistics show that three of the main reasons for having an abortion are, “3/4 say that having a baby would interfere with work, school, or other responsibilities; about ¾ say they cannot afford a child; and ½ say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner” (The Alan Guttmacher Institute). These are all reason that could be avoided, and save many lives in the early stages. One controversial reason a woman might have an abortion is if she has been raped. There are very few cases like this, and in the instance of pregnancy resulting from rape, Linda Lowen informs us “proper medical care can ensure that a woman will not get pregnant” (Abortion Arguments). Overall, the most common reason for having an abortion is that “over 95 percent… [are] women who simply do not want to have a baby” (Abortion is Murder). Women who get pregnant and are not ready to accept the responsibility should not let this result in the death of a human
