Ryan 2/22/2014 Writing 4 Traditional Chinese medicine For a long time, people have known how to treat diseases with traditional medicines. For example, in many countries, people use honey to ease the pain of burned skin. In some asian countries, people prefer to using curing methods which are based on people's experiences. The most popular folk treatment is traditional Chinese medicine. Today, it is combined with Western medicines to give patients the best benefit (Sutton, 2010, P.104). Traditional Chinese medicine is based on a special view of the body; it includes herbal, acupuncture as well as others. First of all, underlying concepts of traditional Chinese medicine are very important. Traditional Chinese medicine is very old; therefore, it has a very distinctive sight, which is unlike other countries' concepts, about human body. Furthermore, Chinese people also believe in Feng Shui and Yin Yang; basically, these two concepts are based on the balance between good and bad. Yin Yang theory is "the concept of two opposing, yet complementary, forces that shape the world and all life" (Sutton, 2010, P.104). Many people believe that the health of people depends on Feng Shui and Yin Yang theories. "Health is an ongoing process of maintaining balance and harmony in the circulation of qi" (Sutton, 2010, P.104). Qi (or Chi) is a kind of life force; therefore, Qi is held inside any living thing. Chinese people believe if we can control the Qi inside our bodies, we can treat any disease. However, no scientists can explain these phenomena. We can say that traditional Chinese medicine has achieved an important role in people life because of its long experience. Secondly, in my opinion, Chinese people are very good at making and seeking herbal medicines. Indeed, herbal medicines are believed to be the most well known method of traditional Chinese medicine.
