Three characters openly state their prejudice against the accused boy because of his background. The 3rd Juror is prejudiced against him because of the antagonism between himself and his own son: “I think we’d be better off if we took these tough kids and slapped ‘em down before they make trouble, you know?” The 10th Juror believes, “These people are born to lie. Now, it’s the way they are and no intelligent man is gonna tell me otherwise. They don’t know what the truth is…They are different. They act different.” The 4th Juror has similar beliefs to the 10th Juror: “This boy, let’s say he’s a product of a filthy neighbourhood and a broken home.
Whenever arguing with a higher status male your inferiority complex would cause you to panic. You would feel uncomfortable in the rarely entered territory of the alpha male, in which one stands up for himself and refuses to be made to feel inferior by anyone. As a result your voice would raise, your speech would quicken and you would begin to make quick and erratic movements. Even as you were defending yourself in an heroic fashion your omega male traits would show themselves. Have you ever heard of an omega male?
Walter tries to push forward the question “Should youth be trialled as adults?” to make the audience consider whether it is correct to hold minors in an adult prison and fact is that the USA Justice System incarcerates more youth than any other country in the world. This was found on (eji.org.eji.com). Steve Harmon is a 16 year old boy on trial for felony murder and he gets sent to an adult prison which is what Walter is trying to get us to think about, Whether it’s fair if Steve or any other minor should be in an adult prison at 16 years of age. The quote “The best time to cry is at night” that Walter had used at the start of the novel writing in Steve’s own words from inside the adult prison is to show the audience that it is not a nice nor safe place in there. This is because Steve was pointing out that if you made a noise in there or if anyone heard you crying they would immediately put all attention onto you as they would take you as a ‘whimp’.
Additionally, ’’ gender roles are powerful and are particularly evident when men attempt to step outside them society and friends often punish them.’’ (Chapter 2) because ‘’a men incorporate masculine stereotypes and norms into their self-concepts and attempt to live up to these standards’’(p.30) When men in color are discriminated and fell rejected they often try to live up some stereotypes created by the society. Kilmartin concludes saying that ‘’all men are aggressive uncaring, disrespectful, etc., is a gross inaccuracy. When differences exist, even when they are small they give us clues to the strengths and weakness of each gender role and the characteristic struggles of men and women.’’ (p. 42) Many young males fear that enjoying feminine activity would make ‘’sissy.’’ (Chapter 2), in order to persuade others their toughness, young male get into gangs, they uses gun and drugs therefore they end up in
FATHER/SON RELATIONSHIP Blacky’s relationship with his father is integral in moulding the adolescent that he is. Although the relationship between the two is clearly negative, it somewhat helps him to look past the fatherly influences, and to seek positive role models to assist him through the journey to maturity. Blacky’s self-esteem levels are low due to the negative relationship and he expects no support from his father. His relationship with his mother, the relationships he develops with other men assist Blacky in developing the courage to stand up for what he believes in. During the course of the novel of ‘Deadly Unna?’ the readers are exposed to the negativity between the father and his son.
There are also criminals who fight with officers when they act erratically, trying to get away. Data for 2003 shows that police used force at a rate of 3.61 times per 10,000 Calls-for-service that is a 0.0361% (Heather MacDonald). There is times when force must be used for the public’s and the cops safety. Just imagine if someone had a gun and was waiving it around in a public place where there are innocent people, and that someone had a finger on the trigger threatening to shoot, what is the responsibility of an officer? Unfortunately he must use force to try to protect him-self and innocent people around the scene.
This caused by violence in society, family atmosphere, and psychological condition. Many murders were the product of violence in society. One out of every four men and one out of every six women believed that it was appropriate for a husband to hit his wife under certain conditions. This emphasis on violence was especially prevalent in television programs. In fact, most the serial killers began to show patterns of aggressive behavior at a young age after viewing increasing amounts of violence.
UNLEASH YOUR HERO By Tiffany Adams This “how-to” article is aimed towards a male audience in middle life. This population may read magazines such as Sports Illustrated or even Playboy. These magazines may objectify women and encourage such theories such as hegemonic masculinity, but they reach a wide male audience that has a huge impact on the issues of Gender Violence and thus deserve to be tapped. This article aims to motivate men to take a stance against Intimate Partner Violence, as activating bystanders even in a more passive role can only have a positive effect on society today. You can hear them arguing, again; but this time, there is an abrupt end to the conflict as one of them escalates
Young African American men are being denied of reaching their full potential because they are ceaselessly getting attacked with verbal abuse from their peers, enemies, and people that do not want to see them prosper in any respect, as to them never amounting to anything in life, it later on does cause them to continuously fear what their “friends” might have to say about them trying to better themselves. David E. Kirkland wrote the book, A Search Past Silence: the Literacy of Young Black Men, to provide a humanizing narrative of young Black men that illustrates the susceptibility and intimacies that shape his ways with words. In other words he wants to give readers a feel of compassion and sympathy for the struggle that black males face by showing us how their education and community can be pulling them in opposing directions and the affect that it has on them. The author makes use of conflict to show how the main character, a young black male named Derrick, yearns to be accepted from his people so much to the point that it begins to blind him of how successful he can actually become via education. Derrick chooses his friends over his education quite a few times throughout
In America, African Americans have always been stereotyped as more inclined to engage in criminal activities. The image depicted is that of African Americans wearing a facemask with only eye and mouth opening with guns strapped inside their leather jackets or tight jeans. The stereotypes have therefore painted a grossly incorrect picture of African American men as violent, aggressive monsters who rob and rape carelessly. As a result, innocent African American youth have wrongly been prosecuted and sentenced to capital punishment even when they are innocent. In stereotyping the African American men as criminals who derive pleasure from inflicting pain on other members of the society, especially the white people, the stereotype has been grossly unfair.
