A strategic plan should include a mission statement, a description of the agency's long-term goals and objectives.” (Glossary of Investment Plans, n.d., p1). I chosed Lean Manufacturing as a methodolgy to be presented and defended to my organization’s leadership so that they can incorporate this methodology into the organization’s strategic plan. Glenn-Mart Products (GMP) is a multibillion dollar, multinational, consumer products distribution and manufacturing company. GMP has established their products in the United States (U.S) and has broadened their base to incorporate international business. From inception, GMP has controlled inventory and distribution centrally in the U.S. This process is automated for U.S.-based stores; however this process is done manually for the foreign entities. Considerable time is needed to gather and reconcile this data and perform quality and integrity checks. This, coupled with production, storage and shipping issues, has resulted in inventory shortfalls and a marked decline in GMP’s profits and customer base. In order to improve quality and efficiency of service, an information system solution to allow GMP to capture and analyze point of sale, inventory and logistics data from our stores and facilities in near real time is needed. In order to implement this project, we need to focus on lean manufacturing; cutting inventory storage requirements; reducing the lead time needed to replenish and make product; establishing more efficient throughput on orders; and maintaining
