Shoplifting affects the economy in multiple ways. It causes the business to lose money, leading to higher prices. Consumers will take their shopping elsewhere, causing further losses of revenue. Less revenue and less demand lead to less need for workers. Layoffs increase unemployment and decrease consumer spending in all sectors.
Sainsbury's is a hierarchical organisation. One of Sainsbury's aims is to make shopping more quick and effortless for customers. In order to find out how this can be done the marketing and research department has to look into this case. By doing this Sainsbury's are able to meet their targets. As Sainsbury's have a hierarchical structure they are most likely to lose a lot of money because for the marketing and research and development departments to carry out their functions they would need funding from the finance department.
Therefore, company A needs to stop making this product. Although we can argue that if company A could reduce the cost dramatically, it can become profitable. However, as the demand of its headphones is shrinking and there are so many suppliers (due to low barrier of entry), there will be great price pressure on the product, as explained by William F. Samuelson and Stephen G. Marks (2010). The price reduction may over shallow the possible cost reduction the firm could achieve. Susan Schreter’s second step is to target new customers from within groups.

A massive layoff by a business decreases the business’s expenses because they will have fewer employees on the payroll. The business will also have less production and may have less income as a result. A household is affected by a layoff because an entire income is lost. When a household loses an income, spending is decreased to compensate for that loss. Businesses also suffer when massive layoffs occur.
“For instance, the fall in the wage lowers people’s income and thereby reduces demand. That reduction may feed back to firms and reduce the demand for their goods, which might reduce the firms’ demand for workers” (Colander, The Limitation of Supply/Demand Analysis, 2010). “If these effects do occur, and are important enough to affect the result, they have to be added for the analysis to be complete. A complete analysis always includes the relevant feedback effects” (Colander, The Limitation of Supply/Demand Analysis,

This leads to rise in unemployment. During recession businesses also tries to get loan from the bank and the bank wants to see their financial statements and if they find out that the business is not capable of paying the money back then they won’t lend any money therefore, the business may have to find new way of catching customers attention. Profits increased only when customers placed large orders and had a large drop in profit when many clients placed small orders. Wrong cost determination is given to individual customers as well as new DOP services. The pricing system for DOP is inadequate for its current operating environment because each customer required different product ordering and distribution ways which cost differently. These costs that were considered in the product pricing strategy were not accurately assigned to each order and needed to be reallocated. In order to set up a better pricing strategy, we need to set up an activity based costing method to figure out cost and profitability for DOP.
