The results of gender stereotypes are apparent in all aspects of society today. From and educational viewpoint, it is vital it use and/ or refuse gender stereo types in the classroom. Educational institutions are known to be hot spot for social interactions, but also are a place in which gender segregation and the reproduction of gender stereotypes are generated. However, as the article discusses, there is a significant amount of things educators, as well as parents can do in this area to prevent this restricting phenomenon. Kitzinger (1988) believes that questioning whether women can do certain activities such as going to university or having certain positions in government are often used for political reasons to save men’s jobs or protect them from losing face to an inferior woman. When considering whether psychology is gender bias or not, it is often wondered whether this only exists within Western cultures. William and Best (1982) carried out a large scale survey of gender stereotypes in 30 different cultures. They found that how women were viewed in comparison to men was similar across various cultures. Men were seen as dominant and aggressive, whereas women were seen as nurturing and deferent.
These are differences in understanding, perception, attitudes, or preferred action. Yet one of the key advantages of working in groups and teams is the opportunity to capitalize on the multiple perspectives that group and team members have (Beebe & Masterson, 2006). An examination of the faculty profiles provided me with an indication that although there are some teachers with innovative ideas, many teachers carry a groupthink mentality. Groupthink is described as a means of deliberating what group members use when their desire for unanimity overrides their motivation to assess all available plans of action (West & Turner, 2004). Some student profiles created by faculty members contain information that could be called into question because of biases and stereotyping.
In Ungar’s argument, he shows that everyone having a liberal arts education can give a person a wide variety of communication and general work skills. Although a liberal arts education may be pricier, jobs are looking for people who are well rounded because of these classes. Ungar states, “the liberal arts could properly be described as a conservative approach to preparation for life” (194). In this statement, he is trying to show that some people prosper with a more conservative approach to things. Murray believes that some people should not even go to college.
Pinker Summary The article Sex Ed: The Science of Difference by Steven Pinker is a commentary on the inherent sex differences of males and females. Through many sources he relates his own ideas, and those of others, that would explain the “gender gap” in the labor force for science, engineering, and technological development. One of his ideas is that persistence of prejudice, discouragement, and other obstacles lead to the gender imbalances seen in the science world. Such prevalent negativity on women could be a reason why women only make up twenty percent of the work force in the science field, but Pinker believes that it is not the only reason. Another prospect is that in the lack of discrimination gender differences can appear.
The concept of diversity includes acceptance and respect these are two main points. This means the understanding of an individual is unique and identifying our individual differences. These all fit into race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs. It is about understanding each other and being able to help others who are complete different. For examples, in the past men had more rights than women but it has all changed now women are eventually getting back their rights.
In summary, The American grading system may not be flawless but it is crucial to the development of all students. Grading is imperative in not only school settings but in most occurences of everday life. Just think for a second, it is perfectly acceptable for sports coaches to choose athletes based on their performances. Likewise for directors and actors, Restaurant owners and cooks, even fashion designers and models. Why then is it such a abhorrent idea for teachers to grade their

He explains this with several examples such as how sometimes we only pick partners because of how physically attracted we are to them, an this may set us up to failure. Rules of attraction such as proximity and similarity also appear in his love building exercises. 3. One issue I had trouble with before even reading the article was the title.
