Raising the Driving Age Aside from suicide, teenage car crashes are the number one reason for teenage fatalities. The problem that causes this is because we are not preparing our teenagers enough before they are let out on the road. We are expecting too much responsibility from these teenagers that only have one thing one their mind, having fun and being careless. Driving is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly and I feel if we raise the driving age and prepare these kids more we can help in the number of kids that we are losing in car crashes. Each state has their own set age and guidelines for driving.
The argument is a big decision for whether it should be raised or shouldn't it be raised because of the consequences of both sides. There are many reasons why the legal driving age shouldn’t be raised, including: more deaths/accidents would occur in the 18-year-old range, parents wouldn’t be able to have as much control of their teen driver, and parents would have to drive their kids around all the time. Making the legal driving age be 18 instead of 16 would have harsh consequences. First, if the driving age were raised
In Road Rage, Ferguson points out that in a recent survey that the Coalition for Consumer Health and Safety did, 64% of the people mentioned that they are driving less mannerly and more recklessly than they did about five years ago (553). We all know that road rage can be cause due to many reasons like stress at work and problems at home. Ferguson also points out that road rage could be solve if we had more police and tougher punishments (556), but we all know that won’t really help. I don’t even think that therapy for those road rage individuals would help. We all just have to pray every time we get into a car and just have patience.
There are also many under age drivers on the road that makes driving on the road more dangerous for them and anyone driving that day. A lot of people also die because they drive while intoxicated I would have to say that’s one of the most cause of death each year. Talking on the phone is one of the most dangerous habits because you’re not always concentrated on the road. Talking on the phone while driving is prohibited because you can get into a car wreck or make some get into one or hit someone and can cause severe injury or death. It is very prohibited to talk on the phone in school areas because there is a lot of kids walking to school or getting off of their parents vehicles to walk into school and you can hit them and severely injure them or even cause death.
Next, over the years people are starting to want to become greener which means them taking out factors in there that harm the environment. Many studies have shown that cars is one of the bigger contributors in the pollution that is happening to today. I believe that it’s from people wanting cars that are faster and louder and just over all suck more gas. But over the last three years people that are becoming greener and put the gas hog away. We all have noticed how car makers are always trying to keep up on what is the newest and the
If people would simply buckle up, that alone could cut the costs down dramatically. Studies show that learning about wearing a seat belt in school is not particularly getting the job done with people who are under twenty five years old. Everybody knows that when a car crashes into something, whatever is hit stops the car. What most people do not know is that if a seatbelt is not being worn, a body will continue to move at the same speed that the car was moving. This is how people get thrown from cars through the wind shield, hit their heads on steering wheels, and maybe even get thrown out of their window.
It can be argued that sixteen year olds are simply not mature enough and do not recognize different situations on the roads and highways to make split second decisions. Teenagers are also easily distracted, sending text, talking on the phone, eating or drinking, not to mention talking or showing off to friends who are in the vehicle, these can definitely distract teenagers while driving. Teens are also most likely not to wear seat belts and are not experienced at recognizing hazards; this and also taking
Because of this many people die for no reason. In addition, Secondly, banning cell phones while driving will decrease the amount of teenager’s death in car accidents. For example, according to http://www.car-accidents.com/teen-car-accidents.html, 5000 teenagers die by car accidents. If teenagers don’t use cell phones while driving, 1200 teenagers are going to be excluded from the list. This shows the reader to know that how life is important and nothing can compare to teenager’s life.
If the law is changed, eighteen year olds will substitute the first year driving statistics for sixteen year olds. The same amount of accidents will still occur, only the age will change. All first year drivers need time to practice driving skills or there will never be time to learn. It’s better to have a sixteen year old getting this practice while closer to home, then an eighteen year old getting the practice while they are away at college. Hang It Up Assignment: Write an essay in which you argue for or against prohibiting cell phones in school.
About 1.6 million car crashes every year are a result in talking on the phone or texting; if a driver takes their eyes off the road for two seconds, it can double their chance of being involved in a crash (Jackson, Nancy mann). Many people think that talking on a hand-held or a hands-free cell phone is no different from talking with a passenger. When talking with a passenger, the passenger tends to pause when the driver needs to concentrate on the road, but when talking on a phone, the person over the phone is not aware of what the driver is doing (Jackson, Nancy Mann). Since there has been many accidents and
