The connection between critical thinking and ethics is that there are no general hard and fast rules regarding the application of ethics in various situations, which is especially pertinent considering the fact that what may be ethical in one situation may be considered unethical in another context. I use my reasoning skills (rationality) to determine both the universal rules that each person should follow (autonomy)and the process that will assure fairness and justice for all in the community. My blind spot my belief that motive justifies method or overconfidence in process. I believe that a consistent process results in a just outcome for all, I sometimes trust the process too much. Ethics plays a very important role in a professional setting.
I do not consider human beings treated as “means” to the accomplishment of some defined “end”. The end does not justify the means. My approach to ethics requires that within legal and human limits, people must be free to make their own choices. I believe that fostering personal growth take precedence over achieving efficiency through organizational and social structures that tend to dehumanize ethical decision-making. For this reason, you advocate policies intended to ensure equal respect and opportunities for all.
In your view there is little to be gained from conflict and friction, so you seek to hold them to a minimum. When you know that the people around you hold differing views, you try to find the common ground. You try to steer them away from confrontation and toward harmony. In fact, harmony is one of your guiding values. You can’t quite believe how much time is wasted by people trying to impose their views on others.
You should be approachable if they need help, but not patronising to assume they are unable to carry out an activity or take on higher level tasks and responsibilities. 1. Describe how to treat other people in a way that respects their abilities, background, values, customs and beliefs. When working with a diverse range of people that have different abilities and backgrounds, it is important to be very open minded and tolerant of other peoples individualities and respect that no one person is right, but everybody is entitled to their way of doing something or beliefs. There is no need to ignore differences, as not acknowledging they exist can also be a form of discrimination.
Even if you fundamentally disagree with another Individual’s attitudes and beliefs, they have the right to hold them, the same right as you have. Respect this. Promote empathy. Considering life from their perspective may help you to appreciate their attitudes and beliefs. Empathy means identifying with that Person’s position, in order to understand from their perspective.
They are not “crazed fanatics” like the media portrays; he feels they simply share a strong sense of values and social responsibility. Stuewe thinks their decision to adopt censorship as a way of protecting their morals is justified. Also, because he believes small-scale censorship like this cannot impact the availability of literature on a larger
Instrumentally rational action is when a goal is not desirable but an induvidual still works out the best way to reach it. Value rational action is when an individual works towards a goal although doesn't know what the outcome will be. Traditional action is a routine action which is done out of habit whilst affectual action is action which is expressed by emotion. Although Weber takes into account the individual choice and focuses on understanding (meanings) when explaining a persons behaviour the four catergories are hard to apply to real situations. Also as we are our own selves and cannot put ourselves in the shoes of someone else we can never really fully understand someone's actions.
According to the choice theory we are not motivated by rewards or punishment so what does motivate us to make choices? The choice theory represents an alternative to behaviorism and other external control psychologies. Rather than seeing people as “shaped” by rewards and punishment, the choice theory suggests that we always have some capacity to make choices and exercise control in our own lives. The choice theory teaches us that we are always motivated by what we want at that moment. It emphasizes the importance of building and maintaining positive relationships with others to create a shared vision.
Working towards our moral sensibilities will reflect the fact that there is no distinction between dutiful acts and supererogatory acts. Supererogatory acts are something that is nice to do for others yet we are not obligated to do
Equity to me is not as important as obligation. The WEAI states that my ethical perspective “on an individuals duty or obligation to do what is morally right – principles that represent what rational persons ought morally to do” (WEAI, 2006). I believe everyone has a right to believe and act the way he or she chooses, however I look at how he or she handles a situation, rather than his or her results. I do believe that everyone is entitled to equal rights and those rights require that there is mutual respect one another. Individuals have an obligation to make decisions that benefit everyone, without taking away from others.
