And sometimes when you suffer from this disabilities, people are easily judge you in a way that they try to seclude you or belong you to have a below average intelligence and assume that you can not do or think the same as other people. In the other hand there is also positive impact of this disability because help is always at hand, aids and benefits are available to support you and some opportunities to have a better outlook in life is be presented. 2. Identify steps that can be taken to overcome factors that have a negative impact on individuals with sensory loss In my own opinion, the thing that can overcome factors that have a negative impact on individuals with sensory loss is to first recognize what is the problem and try to acknowledge or seek help. Like for example if an individual suffers from blindness, the person should open himself for treatment, that he/she should seek help to correct the problem.
These methods of communication can be useful for building vocabularies of individuals with limited speech. Other individuals may have a vast vocabulary, but due to rigid sets of interests may only use repetitive speech which means their communication can be out of context, making conversations difficult. 2. - Problems that individuals with an autistic spectrum condition may have in social interaction and relationships Due to the social difficulties linked with autism, individuals often find social interaction and the building of relationships very difficult. Individuals with autism often have difficulties reading non-verbal forms of communication, such as body language, and find it hard to relate to other people’s feelings and emotions, which can effect their responses to a social situation as they will appear out of context or inappropriate.
3.1 Barriers to communication are Hearing impairment, visual impairment, speech impairment, speaking a different language, physical barrier, emotional barrier. 3.2 Ways to reduce barriers to communicate are if some has a hearing impairment then you need to if they are using a hearing aid you need to make sure that it it working properly, ensure that you are sitting in good light and that you speak clearly and do not shout. As this makes it more difficult for the individual to understand and read what you are saying. 3.3 Ways to check that communication has been understood is to ask the individual. Make sure you listen effectively and the use of body language is also important.
Dementia is a syndrome associated with an ongoing decline of the brain and its abilities. This includes problems with: * memory loss * thinking speed * mental agility * language * understanding * judgment People with dementia can lose interest in their usual activities, and have problems controlling their emotions. They may also find social situations challenging, lose interest in socializing, and aspects of their personality may change. A person with dementia may lose empathy (understanding and compassion), they may see or hear things that other people do not (hallucinations), or they may make false claims or statements. As dementia affects a person's mental abilities, they may find planning and organizing difficult.
Sign language training for deaf people, Textphone. 1-1.3 In the past,it was often thought that people with sensory loss, especially blindness, couldn't do things for themselves, and were often kept in hospitals or homes. Some people still feel this way. This means that the person with sensory loss is disabled because some other people might want to do everything for them, believing that it's in the person's best interests, or that, as is sometimes thought about deaf or deaf/mute people, that they are 'stupid' and incapable of even thinking for themselves. 1-1.4 Education is the best way to overcome disabling attitudes and beliefs.
Likewise, each of them will interact with you in different ways. Individuals are free to communicate through their chosen method which should be accepted and valued by those supporting them. Using the individual’s specific communication methods are particularly important because it’s their major way of communicating. Thus, meeting an individual’s communication needs will help the carer promptly provide everything that they need. Explain how own role and practice can impact on communication with an individual who has specific communication needs.
Robert Findling says it best with his question ‘‘Why would you want to let a child suffer unnecessarily?’’ ( qtd. In Hawthorn 1). People whom do not know the extremities of the symptoms of ADHD are often quick to be adverse of using medication on children with ADHD. For children with ADHD sitting still and focusing on a task whither it be a teacher’s instructions or group activities are near impossible to complete on their own. “No one disagrees that people struggle – some profoundly, others less so – with inattention, restlessness, poor social skills, and academic or vocational frustration, poor self-esteem, substance abuse, accidents and injuries, and other problems correlated with ADHD” (Reznek 17).
Having visual aids and symbols as someone's preferred method of communication can break down the communication barrier by allowing the staff to understand the individual. A strength of having visual aids and symbols is that it allows for the individuals to be able to communicate with other people and have them be understood. However a weakness could be that their visual aids could be lost or that they are not been understood by the person they are trying to communicate with. Learning sign language and/or makaton can be beneficial to someone with additional needs as it may be the only way that the individual can communicate with other people. A strength of this will be that the individual will be able to communicate with other people and get their needs across and get help if they are needing it.
Loftus reveals several examples where people have been through incidents where their memory has failed to tell the truth. The experiment show how awful the results can be if the individual exposes inaccurate information. Loftus also demonstrates how memory is prone to error and that individuals can occasionally make errors in what they remember. One reason error occurs is that individual are having problems retrieving and storing information correctly. This mainly occurs because people do not pay close enough attention to the details around them.
The reason is that Hyperactive Impulsive ADHD is the most problematic so its stands out most. The National Institute of Mental Health, symptoms of this groups include running, climbing, or leaving their seat, in situations where sitting or quiet behavior is expected, blurting out the answer before hearing the whole question, and having difficulty waiting in line or for a turn.
