It all started when I was a little girl in first grade, nervous and scared as a normal child would. Twiddling my fingers as I wait to see my classmates; everyone is getting settled in and I hear other kids talking about the new shoes or backpacks they got. After awhile the room became still; and everyone waited as the teacher walked through the door. “Hello and Good morning class! I’m Mrs. Tavares” my goose bumps and shaky bones suddenly turned to small butterflies and rainbows. She had this warm welcoming smile and happy personality that made everyone in the class smile. Throughout the school year I became attached to learning and how one day I too could make a difference in a child’s life, only because I could see in the eyes of my teacher that she loved her job inspiring others. I learned a lot from her, patience is key, and TBYS “Think before you speak” was one of her biggest words of wisdom that has stuck with me.   She had it all. I remember writing about her to a local radio station who wanted nominations for teacher of the year; I wrote that she was the best teacher in the world! No matter the situation Mrs. Tavares was always in a great mood and always smiling.   I am now twenty three years old, and she is the first person that comes to mind of why I want to be a teacher. Getting my degree to teach is going to be tough and it’s going to take a lot of time, but it can be done. When I think about teaching small children I know that I could be someone’s inspiration; someone’s happy place. I see kids now a days and their manners and the way they look at life is not how I want to teach. I love the movie freedom writers; it sends out an important message, stating that no matter where you come from or how you much money you have or if your parents went to school and even if you had a baby at a young age; there is always something you can do if you continue to   get your education.
