Tired of Being at Home What child doesn’t want to be surrounded by their peers, free from the four walls of their parent’s homes for a few hours, 5 days a week? 1.5 Million children will never experience this feeling. Instead of this free from their parents feeling, some children will be confined to the four walls of their homes all week, being taught by their parents. Some parents refuse to send their child off to public school, maybe because of its satanic nature, the cruelty of children today or just the way the world is in general. However, parents in favor of homeschooling should reconsider it because of its effect on a child’s socialization, and even because of the lack of the parent’s credibility to teach some subjects. Children who are homeschooled miss out on the most important part of their lives as a young person, their peers. Children naturally want to feel a part of a group and love to interact with other kids their age. It is shown that “homeschooled children lacked appropriate socialization experiences leading to inadequate social interaction skills” (“Homeschooling”). Being homeschooled forces a child to be in the presence of their parents, and possibly their siblings majority of the time. This deprives children of the right to be social, to meet new people, to expand their horizons. If all the homeschooled child knows is their family, they will be lost in the real world when the time comes. “A popular argument is that homeschooled children are sheltered from so-called real-world social situations and that they will therefore be socially deficient as adults” (“Homeschooling”). The “real world” is hard enough to survive in as is, not being exposed to it sooner is asking for trouble. Children should not be sheltered their entire lives in the homes of their parents, being taught by their parents, and having only socialized with their parents. If a
