Time and tide wait for none “Time and tide wait for none”. Time is life, wasting of time is wasting of life. Thus we emphasise on the proper use of time. And, it emphasises the importance of punctuality. Time will not stand still and wait until we make up our minds; it is ever flowing on, and every moment the present is becoming the past; and the past can never be recalled. For the proper use of time, it is very essential to do everything at the appointed time. To do a work at the appointed time is to observe punctuality. If it is not observed the time is wasted and time wasting may result in a great loss of life and money. If the government offices, schools or colleges or the trains do not run at the appointed time, they cannot perform their duties well and there may be chaos. For being late, some changes are lost forever because the time is not going to wait for you. In the same way, if you sail on a boat, look keenly for the tide to come. If the tide passes away, you may fail in sailing. To use our time wisely, it is necessary for us to realise early in life that our time is limited, and so every hour of it is precious. We cannot afford to waste it. To idle, aimless people, time goes slowly and life seems long. But to an earnest man, who has an ambition to achieve some solid success before he dies, life seems all too short for his work and so he uses every hour to the full. To him, ‘art is long, and life is short’. Punctuality is a virtue. One who observes it, becomes virtuous. One who pays attention to do a work at the appointed time can observe it. A lazy person cannot observe it. He always does his work late and often suffers for it. He tries to postpone the work for the future time and that time never comes. Haste makes waste. Procrastination or postponement of a work for the future is the greatest enemy of punctuality. That’s why
