‘Art is the product of time and place’, throughout history, starting from the very beginning of time, art has always reflected what is happening in that time period, the events that took place, how people dressed, talked, everyday life, etc. For example right back at the beginning when cave men hunted wild mammoths, their wall paintings which are art, depicted men hunting mammoths and now days art depicts a whole range of different things because our world is so advanced today, our art is as well. Ranging from recycled art, to weird and wonderful paintings, just like our culture today which is multicultural and consists of broad and advanced technology, etc, art emphasises these through its huge unlimited range of paintings, sculptures, vidoes. Etc. The series of “Paradisus Terrestris” by Fiano Hall, “Les Demoiselles d Avignon” by Picasso, “The Kiss” by August Rodin and “The ecstasy of St Theresa” by Bierinini, all give evidence for how art is the product of time and place. “Les Demoiselles d’ Avignon’ was painted in 1907, when this painting appeared it was as if the art world had collapsed, known form and representation were completely abandon. The reductionism and contortion of space in the painting was incredible, and dislocation of faces explosive. Like any revolution, the shock waves reverberated and the outcome was cubism. This work exposes the true genius and novelty of Picasso’s passion, Suddenly he found freedom of expression away from current and classical French influences and was able to carve his own path. Demoiselles is believed by critics to be influenced by African tribal masks and the art of Oceania.
