In what was does Pucks spirit dominate the mood of the play and how does the comedy surrounding him differ to that surrounding bottom? In my essay I am going to be looking at the input of both of the characters in the play and how their actions have an effect and importance in the play. The play the Midsummer’s night’s Dream was written by the famous writer William Shakespeare. He was born in Stratford on Avon , April 1564. He wrote both tragedies and comedies as well some poetry. I will be analysing both of the characters Puck and Bottom and then coming to a conclusion about which one played a more important role. A midsummer’s night’s dream is a comedy. The comedy in the novel is based upon Puck and bottom once again or if it’s not fully them but it is somehow linked to them. The confusion of the Athenian lovers is a great example of this. This is one of the funniest scenes that occurs and this links to Puck because he was the one that was responsible for the confusion in the first place. The second comical thing that happens is the transformation of Bottoms head in to an ass . There were three main types of comedy in the play. The first one occurs when the confusion that happens between the lovers. The second type is Romance which included nearly all the characters except Puck (who had no partner) and the third type is satire comedy and an example of this is a play within a play which can be said to be a satire of a bad play. Puck is a fairy as well as Oberon’s attendant; he was ordered many tasks to carry out throughout the play. The mischievous and witty sprite sets many of the play’s events with his magic. , this was both deliberate pranks and accidental mistakes.
