I am one grain of sand, yes, and may have my own issues, but I should not think of them singlehandedly and need to become a more selfless person that bases my thoughts and perspectives off of everything else that is out there and appreciate just how much we have. This is what Francis is trying to say in the novel. He is trying to prove to us that we are selfish as a society and do not appreciate what we have in life. There are things out there so much stronger and more beautiful than us, but we tend to not appreciate these things. By being more aware of your surroundings, your life will be put in perspective and you will be able to enjoy every precious moment you spend on earth, before your life inevitably
Thinking before acting can help me make wise decisions. However, some disadvantages would be that I can have a lot less fun in life. There will be experiences that I will miss out on. People that I won’t meet and things I will never do. Question 2: How would you rate your own achievement motivation?
“The preference upon the part of the refugee for plural leadership and decision” and “the resentment which succeeds the intrusion of strangers in relief leadership.” showed that people preferred to care for each other on their own instead then being instructed to do so, when they are left by themselves to do so. There always seems to be a sprinkling of the risk for belittling, or patronizing, for what makes them different. It removes the feeling of being civilized while caring for others that makes us act that way. “EMMA,” Emergency Managers Mutual Aid, born the fact that such services needed to be coordinated. Prince believed that the writings of a self-proclaimed “revolutionist” demonstrates that its the much more main- stream philosophy of a different era.
While Carr’s arguments lead to the viable point that technology is now so deeply riveted into the fabric of our lives that we have lost control over its influence on us, he is not the first to be concerned. According to Carr, Socrates thought very little of the advancement of writing due to the fact that it would force society to forfeit the use of their memory because of the abundance of written material that would then be available. He also believed that people would, without receiving knowledge from credible sources, rely alone on their own interpretation of information and in turn become ignorant. Carr sees Socrates’ way of thinking as “short-sighted,” even though his argument in relationship to the internet mirrors that of Socrates’. Google has “[served] to spread information, spur fresh ideas, and expand human knowledge” today in the same way that the development of writing expanded the mind of an individual in the first century (Carr 8).
Although you may not need it, if you really want it bad enough you’ll buy it.” (Dittfurth). He makes an excellent point about how we will buy something if we really want it but how do we know that we really want some thing. When advertisers tell us that we need some thing they make us think that we really need it by saying that everyone else has it. When advertisers push us into believing something, we don’t realize that we are spending our money on something we don’t need when we could be spending the money on something that will help us get farther ahead in life. Another one of my peers, Catherine Arrighi, majoring in business says “if you think about it, consumerism can be a good thing because there are people always trying to invent ‘the next big thing’ therefore stimulating many minds to an endless possibility of inventions and creative ideas” (Arrighi).
“To be one’s self, and unafraid whether right or wrong, is more admirable than the easy cowardice of surrender to conformity” said American author Irving Wallace. This quote is stating that being an individual is better than following everyone else. The Book Thief and Fahrenheit 451 together share the theme regarding individuality versus conformity. The societies in both books are very different then how we live today. People are not speaking up for themselves and for what they think is right.
Surprisingly” Authentic Experiences With so much emphasis on being honest to others, what ever happened to being true to ourselves? Everyday hustle and bustle leads to the lack of self-reflection from experiences. People miss what an incident truly means and ultimately obscure their view of themselves. Dolly Parton once said “find out who you are and do it on purpose.” Exactly how is one supposed to do that? Since experiences are what ultimately shape an individual, reflecting upon those personal experiences lead to self discovery.
People cannot show the result of being or prejudice because people are known to select things that they are more familiar with, things that they are more commutable with, and things that they see in their everyday environment. This is just human nature so this is the reason why I say that it is hard to accurately measure
They depend upon technology so much they think is a waste of time to open up a book. For example, technology creates so much power to the mind they start to forget things that are important to them . Mildred is just like everyone I the society; instead of caring for Montag and loving him, she goes along with society and doesn’t realize that its making
When we're speaking with someone, there's always a thin line that's easy to cross. Whether it's taking a joke too far or touching a awkward topic, there are always boundaries, that if crossed, relationships can get destroyed. But do the same rules apply to art? Is there a line that shouldn't be crossed or a topic too controversial? I argue that having the ability to be controversial is what makes art, art.
