ENTRY 1 Item 1: Poem Ah Sunflower Ah Sunflower, weary of time, Who countest the steps of the sun; Seeking after that sweet golden clime Where the traveller's journey is done; Where the Youth pined away with desire, And the pale virgin shrouded in snow, Arise from their graves, and aspire Where my Sunflower wishes to go! _William Blake_ Rhetorical devices: Symbol: - Sunflower symbolizes human experience in life. (The sunflower has lived for a long time and has gained the experience acquired through life and its events. It always wants reach higher real existence). * The Youth and the Virgin symbolize innocence in death. (The innocents have lived only for a short amount of time, encountering only the positive side of life so they lack age and the experience associated with age. However, they still search for higher level of existence even though they have passed from life to death). Rhythm: * Perfect rhythm: time – clime; desire – aspire. * Imperfect rhythm: sun – done; snow – go. Message: Only after both experience and innocence that one can reach the higher plane of existence. Item 2: Story The missing watch There once was a farmer who discovered that he lost his watch in the barn. It was no ordinary watch because it had sentimental value for him. After searching high and low among the hay for a long while; he gave up and enlisted the help of a group of children playing outside the barn. He promised them that the person who found it would be rewarded. Hearing it, the children hurried inside the barn, went through and around the entire stack of hay but still could not find the watch. Just when the farmer was about to give up looking for his watch, a little boy went up to him and asked to be given another chance. The farmer looked at him and thought: “Why not? After all, this kid looks sincere enough.” So the farmer sent
