Things Fall Apart Essay Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a novel about the culture of an African village and how the white man took over from an African’s perspective. One of the main reasons the village was taken over by the white man s because the village did not have a single leader. A good leader is strong, determined, and concerned for the people close to him. In this book the main character, Okonkwo, shows many of these characteristics of being a good leader. One attribute of being a good leader is being strong. There are many examples of Okonwo’s strength in the novel. It shows your power, and that others will not push you around. As you can see, Okonkwo is definitely a man of strength. A second attribute to being a good leader is determination. A leader needs to be determined to get a job done, and to not give up. There are many examples in the book where Okonkwo shows that he is a determined man. He shows this on page 13 when the book says “But his whole life was dominated by fear, the dear of failure and of weakness.” This quote shows that he hates the thought of being weak and a failure. Therefore, Okonkwo is determined to be seen as the opposite. Okonkwo also shows determination later in the book on page 171 when it says,
