There are many threats to global supplies. Explain the problem, identify possible solutions, and assess the implications of implementing these solutions. Recent decades have witnessed an obvious trend that the number of people in the world inched up. Black (2010) state that world population is forecast to stabilize at 9 billion by 2050. Because of global warming, the earth's climate is also undergoing profound changes. With this phenomenon, situation of water resource and land resource is facing a serious pressure. As these trends continue, many serious problems are threating to global food supplies. Firstly, population explosion requires large amounts of food to supply. There are more than one seventh people who do not have enough nutrition from their food on earth today. In addition, shortage of water and land which could affect the food production is one of the critical problems over the world (FAO, 2009b). Wasting too much water and water pollution cause decreasing water resource in daily life. Urbanization has witnessed the fading away of many farm lands. What is more, lower yield in less-developed countries leads to ‘yield gap’ in agricultural production (Godfray, 2010). Farmers in developing countries do not master the advanced technical knowledge and skills which can increase food productivity (Godfray, 2010). Also there is not sufficient investment in agricultural area in these countries (Godfray, 2010). So proper measures must be taken to deal with these serious problems. First of all, one part of solutions is strengthening the research in agricultural area (Godfray, 2010). With the fast development of gene technology, we find many different kinds of crops which can adapt to various environments. These crops may have a high yield when we use these techniques. Secondly, enhancing education serves a useful function of food production (Anderson,
