Introduction to
Mental Health and
Therapeutic Interventions

The purpose of the following assignment is for me to be able to show my ability to undertake and understand the importance of both assessment and care planning when working with clients suffering with a mental health problem within my care as a student nurse, and how these promote the recovery and independence of the client receiving care.
In order for me to be able to achieve the purpose of this assignment I will be involved in an assessment of a client in my care setting, which will explore the mental health problems that they are currently faced with. It is important that such treatment options are discussed in order for service users to be able to make informed choices (NICE, 2004). Sally explained that she was slightly apprehensive about treatment, as still finds it hard to admit she has a problem as it has been a way of life for so long. The NICE guidelines state that many people with anorexia nervosa find it hard to acknowledge they have a problem and are ambivalent about change.
