Theodore Roosevelt: A Leader to be Remembered Leadership, it is a quality that is strived for by many. To be a leader one must have a certain set of skills or traits. Leaders are characterized by traits such as drive, desire to lead, honesty, cognitive ability, self-confidence and knowledge. Leaders do not think about themselves, a leader influences the thoughts and the behavior of others. A leader also establishes a direction for others to follow. An effective leader values the people around them, listens, gives credit, admits mistakes and sets a good example for their followers. Theodore Roosevelt flourished in all of the skills and traits that one must have to be a quality leader. Theodore prospered at a young age and throughout his college years, he was self confident in his choices, he had a vast amount of knowledge on numerous subjects, he lead America to victories in multiple wars, he had a desire for conservationism and most of all was an exceedingly effective President. Theodore was the second of four children. Throughout his childhood he struggled with sickness and frequent ailments. Even though young Theodore was asthmatic and sick for most of his childhood he was also very hyperactive and mischievous. Theodore was very smart and curious, he had a love for conservationism at a young age and when he was 18 he got accepted into Harvard University. He attended Harvard for four years. He strived as a leader in many subjects while attending Harvard. Some of Theodore’s undertakings while in Harvard was “Rowing, boxing, the Alpha Delta Phi literary society, the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and was a member of the Porcelain Club. He also edited a student magazine. He was runner-up in the Harvard boxing championship” (Theodore Roosevelt).
